If it can secure assistance from Wisconsin State and from La Crosse County for a $8 million investment, S&S Cycle intends to create about 100 new jobs between its 2 locations in Viola and La Crosse. The Viola plant in Vernon County would get more than $5 million in upgrades, adding about 57 new jobs there. The La Crosse location would be equipped with new machinery to produce new product lines, resulting in about 40 new jobs. S&S Cycle is a 57-year o;d company showing again a tremendous expansion after a difficult time during the 2008 recession when the company had to lay-off 60 workers. S&S Cycle President is Paul Langley. The company was founded by George J Smith with son George B. Smith being Chairman Emeritus.

theyre still king..period
Glad to see they are doing very well. Well deserved.
When you think of quality American made V twin products S&S is at the top of the list.
Isn’t it strange that the MoCo is laying off 250 employees and S&S is asking for public corporate welfare to hire 97 employees?
Yeah, how come the taxpayers are being asked for assistance? Shouldn’t S&S work harder and spend less so it can be self reliant?
Uneducated Rodent doesn’t know and probably can’t understand that when a state or county helps a corporation to expand, the state, the county and the all the tax payers benefit from the corporation and employees tax dollars. I bet that Rodent is an unsuccessful bitter old man on welfare. And to end, I am happy to read that S&S continues to expand.
Go S&S. Go.
Great news for a great company

I like and admire the motor company for their products and longevity. Great Company.
I also like and admire S&S for their success in being a great “aftermarket” company. They also serve the motorcycling public well. 100 new jobs is a significant contribution to both Viols and LaCrosse.
I wish they would say what the products are that they will be making. There hasn’t been a need for mass production custom bike engines in years. I think that Jim’s ,another builder is quite diversified in what they produce. But thumbs up to S&S.
H-D lays workers off or makes them go part-time,
S & S is creating jobs !!
I think I know where I would send my $$$
So Joshua?? if you owned a small business and lets say your wife wanted a new house or you thought you should put some more money up for retirement someday and you thought I have a couple of ideals to make a couple of new products that will do that for my wife and I. I just need to go down to the local
Chamber of Commerce and the City and talk them into investing some Taxpayer Dollars so I can expand my business and get that retirement income and that new house my wife wants…sure it will create a couple of new jobs and extra taxes for the city and county but I really got someone else to make the happen for me! and I didnt have to spending of my own money after all the taxpayers really did all the work!!

David. In addition to not writing in proper English, you don’t understand how the process works. Most of the money always come from the company, not from the county or state. Regarding the complement of money that a city, county or state can provide, there is an evaluation of risk because the money is lent, not given, and must be paid back with interest. So, if everything works fine, at the end of the day the taxpayer benefits. I can’t believe the low level of education of so many Americans like you.
Generally when a city gives incentives or lowers property taxes, it comes with rules. If S&S can’t make the jobs it has asked the city to help fund it owes the money back. Its in most cases not a loan.
Bob Wilson, I wasn’t trying to write a proper book but just put an ideal across. I am college educated and have a degree from West Texas State University and after college started a business with my father working in the Oil and Gas industry on large natural gas engines and compressors. I do understand the process ! But as taught by my father, I don’t believe in going begging for someone to fund my business or ask taxpayers to expand it. The funds should be available or I should have a proper business plan to take to the bank for a loan to expand any business needs!
Thanks Bob for noticing that I was tired after a long day at work when I was reading and responding to this post and it has been about 40 years since those college english and writing classes.
