Indian Motorcycle is recalling 7,611 model year 2015-2016 Chief Classic, Chief Vintage, Chieftain, Roadmaster, and 2016 Dark Horse motorcycles manufactured between January 2, 2015 and October 23, 2015 due to a problem with the rear brake master cylinder. The motorcycles may have a reduction in, or a complete loss of rear brake power.
A full or partial loss of rear braking power may lengthen the distance needed to slow or stop the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash. Indian will notify owners and dealers will replace the rear brake master cylinder piston assembly free of charge. The recall is expected to begin November 13, 2015. Owners may contact Indian customer service at 1-877-204-3697. Indian’s number for this recall is I-14-04.
Any word on the 101 scout from indians Facebook page?
Funny every one says how HD has so many recalls. Like it would never happen to Polaris/Victory
Rear brakes must be exceptionally difficult, Honda has had 3 recalls on the same Goldwing rear brake issue;]
X-HD: Pointing out that H-D has issued a lot of recalls recently is not necessarily a statement that other manufacturers have never or will never have one as well.
Everybody has them and it appears so many more and is not limited to any brand .
Why ?
Out Sourcing ?
We are more aware because of the internet ?
Greater litigiousness ?
Recalls used to be a joke and factories did not do it unless there was a serious risk to life and limb ?
The MotorCycles we love cost so much more and we expect better ?
All of the above ?
I honestly think it is down to Corporate greed ! but any other reasons would be great to see
James just another crazy Kiwi:
All excellent points, but how does corporate greed get the company money? I would think that these recalls cost the company a lot and is bad for business. But I do think all of the above in some form.
Peace Mate
All of the above does seem the best anwer(s) IMHO. Though greed may factor into it, I don’t think it’s a major factor. I think if anything, fear is a bigger factor than greed. Economic survival is often short-term solutions towards a long term plan, and quite often that morphs into short-sighted solutions. Companies (especially those in highly developed countries) are aware of cheap footprints creeping up behind them. Nobody wants to the the overpriced anything, and especially lately, fear of the unknown regarding rules & regulations, shrinking disposable consumer dollars, rising health costs, etc. and there’s been a climate to pare off 5¢ whenever possible. Look how GM screwed up a “bulletproof” 3.8L V6 engine with plastic intake manifolds and valve covers that cracked leaked and cost consumers more per car than GM saved. Ill will, anyone?
Everybody has them and it appears so many more and is not limited to any brand .
Why ?
partly because they all take the it’s good enough attitude !!!!!!!!!
it should be perfect or tested properly NOT ITS GOOD ENOUGH
Use the $$$ to do it right ………….not re do it right with recalls
Everybody has recalls nowadays !!!
The trick is was it an honest mistake
Or the results of treating your workers like crap ????
“James just another crazy kiwi” has it just about right !!!
As a foot note it is everything that helps S&S do well.
As long as Corporates get greedy and out source product to get cheaper prices S&S will flourish.
Smaller privately owned companies are always the best to deal with over here.
Unfortunately when share holders dividends and share prices are the main driver in a company it will always end up fouling in its own nest and shafting it’s customers……………..
Stellar work there everyone. I’ll keep on reading.
