That you have been there or not, you all know that the women of Saudi Arabia are not authorized to take the wheel. But in a new video game, they ride motorcycles as they race through destroyed and corrupted lands.
The smartphone game called “Saudi Girls Revolution” (SGR) was created by His Highness Prince Fahad Al-Saud, the grandson of the Saudi Arabia king’s brother. He’s got an occidental culture, studied at Stanford University, worked at Facebook on the launch of the Arabic version and has lived in Los Angeles and London and has founded several companies including NA3M Games, the company behind “Saudi Girls Revolution”
Saudi Arabia not only bans women for driving but has very harsh punishments for those breaking the law. Saudi Arabian women have wanted to drive and been fighting for their right to do so for decades, without success. Will a video game help the fight for more relaxed laws for all women living in the arabic world? Waiting for it, Saudi Arabia women can imagine being one of the 8 ladies of the game riding at full speed under dark clouds in a post-apocalyptic Kingdom through hostile landscapes, fighting against brutal tyrants with their abayas waving in the wind. Or maybe it’s mostly men who will play “Saudi Girls Revolution”. Who knows?
Interesting. But it seems to me that in comic book or video game world regardless of culture and religion, the role of the female character seems more about male sexual fetishes than any other altruistic purpose.
Cool. Saw an article about this in Die Welt way earlier this year. Funny how that author chose the phrase “abayas waving in the wind” as well.
What a joke, may we assume His Highness Prince Fahad Al-Saud will be beheaded now for not being devout enough?
Maybe it is him wearing his own dress…
A very clumsy PR attempt….???
-nicker-
Looks like they’ll be riding Confederate Fighters in the post-apocalypse.
What will they think of next ?
PASS !
BobS. Your right about women in video games, however this is what the young males making them are thinking about women. You realize as you get older and procreate that these views are all false.. or you shoot up a school or mall…
As for the video game. These little things are all good, feed them little bits and pieces that they can tolerate.. just a little at a time and that is progress..
Mrs. Behaves
Must politely disagree. Little bits aren’t all good when they’re lies and/or propaganda to used to mask the truth. With what we know about Saudi Arabia, any truth in this cartoon is wishful thinking.
