The Ducati 860 GT was produced in 1974 and 1975. The 860 series used stress member frame of Fabio Taglioni’s original 750 GT L twin, with bevel cam drive and with the enlarged capacity achieved by using two of the Ducati 450 single-cylinder engine’s sleeves and pistons. Motor was 863.5 cc (52.72”) four stroke air cooled 90° V-twin for maximum speed of 109 mph (175 km/h). 5-speed transmission, chain drive. Only 1-piston caliper in the front and drum brake in the rear. The electric-start version was called the 860 GTE, while all Ducati models had electric start after 1975. Sheds to languish and rust or crashed and written off I guess
pure classic lines
Similar to when Triumph and BSA styling went awry in the early 1970’s. Even the nice Conti mufflers are gone.
After the masterpiece of the round-case 750GT, Sport, and SS, the 860GT came as a slap in the face. Slab-side design courtesy auto designer Giorgio Giugiaro, everyone hated this bike, and it flopped. Ducati rushed their 900SS into production, which saved their butt…
