Safety. Do you Know How Much Weight You Can Carry On Your Touring Motorcycle?

14_FLHTK_LOC2I bet you don’t because you never read in full your touring bike manual. And if you ask the dealer servicing your bike, he probably doesn’t know either.

Exceeding weight limit is directly linked to many tire failures and sometimes with for consequence the bike getting out of control. Of course, how much you can safely carry depends of your weight and the one of your passenger in full riding gear.

To make sure you don’t ride on an overloaded motorcycle, you want to stay within the manufacturer’s recommended weight rating for your specific model. A law firm from Texas (I have no affiliation with it and don’t recommend it) uploaded on its website a very easy to use weight calculator for Harley-Davidson, Victory and BMW tourers, including model year 2016. You just enter your weight and the one of your passenger, and you immediately get the residual weight you can safely carry. Go to Motorcycle Safe Weight Calculator.

No doubt many are overladen…and many would “benefit” from basic tire pressure monitors, too
