30th Anniversary Of Italy Biker Fest May 19-22, 2016. Double The Fun Riding There.

00-bisbf0bf7-bissm7-tersm9Nicknamed “Italy’s Daytona” Biker Fest is celebrating this year 30 years of biker lifestyle and of custom bikes innovation. It’s one of Europe biggest party and it will happen May 19-22 in and around the city of Lignano-Sabbiadoro on the Italian Adriatic coast. 4 days of demo rides, bike shows, stunt shows, Classic cars and Hot Rod shows, motocross, etc and of course of night parties Italian style, meaning among other things, loud, very loud… At some times, 30 to 50.000 bikers are together on the roads around the event! Founded and organized by Moreno Persello publisher of the Italian Bikers Life Magazine, he is also the original founder of the Bike Expo of Padua.

Each year Motographer and collaborator Horst Roesler rides to the event from his native Germany. In addition to some pictures of last year’s event, I publish a few scenic views and historic sites that he shot last year on his way to the rally. If you can ride to the event, do it. Below some of his advice to make it very enjoyable. A good pretext for some nice postcards.

48sm“If you are traveling in northern Italy, the best advice you can have is Make NO Rigid Plans. Just check on your electronic device the weather forecast en route to the alps. There are plenty of options to reach the town Lignano-Sabbiadoro on spectacular roads and take your time. Mid-May, hotel rooms are easily available without reservation because the main tourist season is still weeks away. Personally, from Irschenberg in Germany, I ride first the direct route passing though Salzburg and Faak See (Austria) extended by a scenic and historic road through the Isonzo valley or through the high passes over Tre Cime, Lake Misurina and Cortina d’Ampezzo (the very famous Italian ski station) directly into the heart of the Dolomite mountains. Just a few more miles is the route over the Brenner Pass to have a rest along Lake Garda and Verona. Or Cheese lovers will find heaven atop the high plateau of the 7 Communi above the Venetian plain. Food is always a reason to visit Italy…

6sm7sm0000-bisbfThe town of Lignano-Sabbiadoro, epicenter of Biker Fest, was erected in the sixties Equally popular Bibione And Grado situated on the other side of the Tagliamento mouth. As a result of Italy’s entry into the war, Grado, Monfalcone and Triest became Italian. Few visitors are aware that – turning their heads east to a line of low hills just above the horizon they are in fact looking at one of the most blood soaked battlefield of World War 1 during Italy’s quest for Triest and parts of Slovenia and Croatia. Today, Lignano seems to be more Austrian than ever before with a lot of condos and yachts belonging to Austrians.

2bf1bfThe most spectacular sceneries are “Tre Cime” and Lake Misurina above Cortina d’Ampezzo less than 2 hours down the road. The spectacular views from the “Monte Grappa” battlefield above the Italian plain, the “Montello” and Venice below. If the weather turns bad, seek shelter at the “Grotta Gigante” near Triest or check out Slovenia’s spectacular Postojna caves and the Predjama castle built into a rock cave. The organisers of Biker Fest also offer “Guided Tours” around the surrounding areas, actually near where Ernest Hemmingway stayed in and after World War 1.” Horst Roesler

All Biker Fest event sites and bike show are free of access. Website is in multiple languages. Just ride there!
