The BMW R5 was released 81 years ago, in 1935. To pay tribute to this German motorcycle legend, the BMW Motorrad Design Team selected Swedish shop Unique Custom Cycles to reimagine and reengineer it taking for inspiration the 30’s racers.
Working from sketches provided by BMW, components such as the frame, gas tank and rear fender were hand-crafted by the Norens brothers.
Powerplant is an original 500 cc two-cylinder boxer engine given by Motorrad enthusiast Sebastian Gutsch. It is fitted with a specially designed supercharger to bring power output closer to contemporary midweight motorcycle level, around 45 hp. Aluminum engine cases were glass-bead blasted. No instruments on this project and a finish in classic gloss black BMW with white stripes. Probably a project to end up in the BMW Motorrad Museum.
Clean and smooth. Nice work! peace
Great job to make me like BMW…
Very clean. Like.
The rear suspension is clean. I is softail like but probably handles with that monoshock hidden in there. I dig on the drive shaft without rubber boots. It looks slim. That is a hell of a nice bike coming from a guy who rides H-D but loves em all.
This is a cool motorcycle!
Simplicity!!! Absolutely beautiful.
Beautiful job BMW, nice to see a Supercharger on a custom.
A good lookin’ cycle.
Love it
BMW could take a lesson in classic design from this one! Very cool ride!
BMW gives lessons and the Wise take it. There is not a Class of Bike that BMW is not First in, except Dirt track racing! That is only because the German’s don’t have and Dirt Roads….they are all Paved, with real Cement. i asked a German Engineer at a Bike Show why they don’t do a V-Twin only 90 degree opposing Twins and he said Can a Man last longer laying down or standing up on an angle? Same Principle as in a Motor. You Americans think our Engineering is complex, when it is very simplistic?
Beautiful & different….. Couldn’t get much better than that…

Teutonic less is more. Beautiful .
Swedes kept the chopper alive when it was gasping for air in the USA.
Usually very clean like the example here ………………..brilliant
Wow
I would love to see that in my garage!!!
