As a featured vehicle at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, and paying tribute to Detroit’s bad-boy rocker, Polaris introduced the turbocharged Slingshot Kid Rock SS-R concept. A collaboration between Slingshot® and Bob Fehan Motorsports, the SS-R concept pushes approximately 400 horsepower through the signature three-wheeler’s rear wheel, thanks to a custom intercooled turbocharging system on the Slingshot’s standard 2.4-liter engine. Road-race suspension upgrades help to channel that extra power through the corners for a more exhilarating experience on the track or highway.
The concept vehicle’s high-performance is complemented visually with custom carbon fiber body panels, a bold wing spoiler, custom lighting and Kid Rock graphics. The cockpit features custom racing seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel, short-throw shifter and much, much more. “Standing out from the crowd and delivering an on-road experience like no other is what Slingshot is all about. With its distinctive style to its turbocharged performance, the Kid Rock SS-R concept is as bold as the rocker himself,” said Steve Menneto, President of Polaris Motorcycles.
Built by Bob Fehan Motorsports, the roster of custom and unique content on the concept vehicle includes:
• Turbocharged and inter cooled 2.4L engine with custom induction and exhaust systems
• High-performance racing wheels and tires
• Custom carbon fiber body panels with hydrographic carbon fiber body trim
• Carbon fiber wing spoiler
• Polycarbonate hard-coated windshield
• Racing seats with custom-embroidered “Kid Rock SS-R” logos on the seat faces
• Racing safety belts and soft doors
• Auxiliary turbo boost and oil pressure gauges and accented gauge bezels
• Flat-bottom steering wheel and racing pedals
• Rearview mirror with integrated navigation display and display for an in-vehicle video system
• Short-throw shifter
• Three-way-adjustable road-race shocks and billet aluminum rear shock mount
• Road-race stabilizer bar, bushings, adjustable links and brake master cylinder support brace
• Cross-drilled high-performance brake rotors with composite pads.
Slingshot’s 2017 lineup includes feature upgrades and new colors for the brand’s flagship models, a new racing-inspired roadster and an expanded lineup of accessories focused on rider comfort, storage and more customization choices. The 2017 Slingshot® SLR is the newest model of the groundbreaking three-wheeled roadster lineup and features lightweight forged aluminum wheels, a 305MM-wide rear tire, Sparco® race-inspired cockpit touchpoints, a custom two-tone paint scheme and more. It expands the Slingshot range of American-designed and manufactured roadsters to three models, including the original Slingshot and Slingshot SL.
Is that a MotorCycle ? legally it might be spiritually and emotionaly no.
Dont mind trikes but………………………………………………………………………………
• Racing safety belts and soft doors
• Short-throw shifter
• Carbon fiber wing spoiler
And if it had four wheels i would say it is an ugly car. Bet if HD built something like that it would not be featured here………..just a thought
James, Don’t forget…It has a steering wheel, roll bars and seatbelts (as does the stock slingshot). It is not a motorcycle!
It is not a car either. This falls into the Autocycle category.
Educate yourselves…
H-D built the Trihawk…
Trihawk 1985 and ugly they built golf carts too,
Only Hybrid for want of a better word I like is the Morgan with the S&S Donk.
They look soooo cool and just a little scary cause I reckon it would be easy to get into trouble with one of those…………….but trouble can be fun too
I still say if you sit in it and not on it-it’s a car. Seat belts? Short throw shifted? Gimme a break.
I hope they got the brake recall done. Thats all you need is nitrous and bad brakes.
SYF, does it have nitrous, too? Don’t see that in the writeup.
this machine is for a special kind of person , Kinda like going to 6 flags and only riding the kiddie rides .
@ Woody’s,
No it doesn’t. My mind thought turbo charged, but my fingers typed nitrous. Oops.
Good lookin’ out.
Kid can afford it ! Rock on !!!
Guys why is there an argument ?
Steering wheel, Roll bars, bucket seats in tandem & seatbelts.
Maybe classified as a cycle / autocycle but, IT IS A CAR !!!!!
A car would have airbags, crash structure, windshield and wipers, tight emissions controls, etc. It would weigh (and cost!) more. Slingshot couldn’t exist if it was a car, plain and simple.
@SYF, thx, thought I missed it. That’s a really good GM engine platform, the original 2.4 was normally apirated and 186 HP, then they came out with a 2.0 turbocharged at 260 that could be easily bumped up with nothing but a chip change and catback exhaust. Mine’s 300HP all day on premium gas.
I think the car vs MC thing keeps coming up because deep down, nobody likes a cheat and these exist only to cheat the rules other sportscar makers have to abide by. Also, folks like me are concerned that when too many people go splat and the safety Nazis start some Nader/Corvair crusade, all trikes may end up being banned including our home-builts and conversions. The pendulum always seems to over swing when there’s push-back.
