New Oil Products For Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight Touring Models

Oil Catcher Drain Funnel. This new Oil Catcher Drain Funnel (P/N 62700199, $22.95) was made specifically for servicing the new Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight engine. Harley-Davidson says it fits securely around the oil filter mounting bracket while providing access to spin the filter off its mount. Oil is captured in the funnel and drains through a tube to a catch basin or bottle. The funnel’s smooth orange surface is easy to wipe clean after use.

Oil Cooler Cover. This new Oil Cooler Cover (P/N 25700633 Chrome, P/N 25700634 Black; $149.95) is meant to pull double duty as both protection and style enhancer. This cover is shaped to hug the contours of the oil cooler body and does not interfere with the engine guard or the voltage regulator. The forward-facing mesh screen adds a custom touch and protects the oil cooler fins from road debris without disturbing the airflow across the surface. Unfortunately, the cover doesn’t fit models with fairing lowers, or with the accessory Fan-Assisted Oil Cooler (P/N 62700204).

    I hope this drain catch works better than the last “best ever” oil filter drain. Maybe they could make the filter easier to access…………………………..nahhhh

    My BIGGEST pet peeve is that damn oil filter. I was hoping the pointy headed engineers would do something w/that damn filter on the new M8 but NOPE!!! Still hang the damn thing out front where it’ll slobber all over my customer’s HIGHLY cosmetic machine………………….That filter issue just makes me shake my head and talk to myself…………………………………

    Maybe this “new” design will work better than all the other attempts at correcting a miserable design. Besides the cosmetic mess the spilled oil makes and the extra time and cost in cleaning products, I believe there is a somewhat hidden problem with rubber mounted engines. The spilled oil attracts dirt and grit which in-turn increases wear and oil, being a good solvent, can break down the “rubber” on the mount. In addition, using solvents to clean up the oil will accelerate the breakdown. It seemed like replacing front mounts was very common on the police motor unit fleet I used to service.
