50 years ago, in August 1967 New Zealander Burt Munro set a land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats on a 1920 Indian Scout he modified himself and worked on for years. Munro’s 1967 record is unbeaten for the 1000cc motorcycle class at 184.087 mph (two-way average speed ) Great-grand-nephew Lee Munro is in Bonneville commemorating this record, piloting “The Spirit Of Munro”, a specially built Indian Scout running in the 1350cc class, and with no intention to attempt to beat his ancestor’s record which was anyway in the 1000 cc class.
Last week at Speed Week, on the salts of Bonneville, Lee Munro made several runs on the 2017 Scout. On his first run Saturday, August 12, Munro’s official top speed on the Short Course was 191.286 mph. On Munro’s second run in the middle of the day Saturday his official speed was 182.439 mph. When he got back to the pit he told his crew the salt in the middle of the course was soft and slushy. Munro also made one run on the Long Course on Monday, with a top speed of 180.428 mph. Speed Week continues through August 18. Depending on conditions
While I never will be mistaken for a fan of the Polaris/ fake indians nice job well done by the engineers, builders, tuners and rider, like them or hate them (indian) racing is racing good job
Fake Indians?
Go ride one and then come back and tell us how fake they are!
Salt racing is cool but it’s still sad to see P156 chopped up and turned into this.
Sloppy salt can ruin dreams. Well done, nevertheless. Congratulations, Lee.
Victory is dead and no amount of sad lamentation on every post related to Indian is going to bring it back. It has grown tiresome.
I have rode several Dainty and they junk and they ugly, quit crying and congratulate the team on their accomplishments, the full bodywork makes it look good
Remember when HD did fun stuff like this?
They still do they just don’t advertise as much their still in touch with the rider/racer
Really tell me the last time Harley raced other then flat track and they can’t even break the top 5. To refresh your memory the last time harley raced was at Daytona when they where building the vrod and drag racing a vrod
Nhra
Nora with a Porsche engine. Hd Gould the gesign a decent engine to save them selves. Just look at the beef jerky 8.
Congratulations one and all
Greg’s right Indian is spanking the taint off Harley. Munro was an incredible bloke. The kin has big shoes to fill and they have a lot of heart to do it. Bert has to be smiling down on him. Polaris bikes smoked all Harleys but the v-rod, not to shabby eh?( Thanks to Porsche). That motor is waisted by the moco and should have been offered on other bikes as a good entry platform for building ass kicking mill’s.

Those sure aren’t fake Indians spankng the Harleys in Flat Track!
Greg’s wrong . Its all marketing hype and Smoke& Mirrors intended to deceive . Which looking over the comments here so far they’ve been very successful . But then again in light of recent events : Does the masses and minions falling for yet another con job come as much of a surprise ? ‘ Fraid not buckaroos . 😎
Sorry for the double post mates. You can’t give a.smart phone to a. dumb ass.
This is not about HD vs Indian. This is all about the nephew of a world class speed freak carrying on the family tradition. Well done young Munro.
If these are fake Indians, then I can’t wait to see what the real Indians will do.
this is cool stuff . Blind man is right. its about generational legacy. congrats to all involved!
Great job Lee and Indian team. looking forward to more from your camp.
