Brake Drums With Cooling Fins For Harley Springer Forks

Wonder why the out the fins vertically instead of horizontal? Maybe they are just for looks?Nice to have replacement drums though.

cutting them like that give the maximum additional surface area, and that’s what increases cooling. Getting as much laminar flow through the grooves as possible will carry away the most heat. Since they’re right in the oncoming air when the bike is moving, and “fan effect” from radial grooves wouldn’t be a plus.

It looks as if they will actually fit unlike V-Twins which need to have the bolt boss outer diameter turned down in a lathe to fit inside the hub.

Back in the day there was an add on accessory that added fins to the outside of the drum for the same reason. I would guess they are trying to make them look like that part. Nice piece.

Architect, I have one of those on my panhead, they are rather rare, don’t know if it was a factory part or aftermarket. I have found that most people don’t know how to set up the front brake properly and say they don’t work well. They work pretty good when done right, not as good as a disc though.

I bought one of these, and decided not to use it because it weighs 8.8 pounds!
