Is it just me or do these look really air flow restrictive?

Remind me of the Brooklands mufflers on the later Velocettes.
    Would suit a British thumper.

Most stock mufflers look ugly. Those won’t help.

Since ariel are british and the arrow is therefore very british (despite its hideous almost Japanese look forks) I guess the “silencers” will not only look very british but are also very restrictive to match owing to Ariels wish to supply luxury/conservative performance motorcycles.
As with most british manufacturers they did compete in racing in such places as the Isle of Man and also Brooklands.
Owing to development of new housing around the Worlds first banked motor racing circuit and complaints by inconsiderate residents of these houses to SCUM of the EARTH local council regulators. Noise restrictions were put in place. Hence the “Brooklands Silencer was Born”. It was there fore a common site on Many motorcycles of the time as in most cases a dress up to look sporty accessory.

Very nice reproductions can also be found at Armors in England (I think that’s the spelling)

The area of the actual exhaust opening doesn’t seem smaller than the area of the inlet/outlet piping at the actual muffler.
