Michelin Supplier For Harley-Davidson.

As you can see Bibendum, the Michelin Man, is very happy. Harley-Davidson Motor Company announced that it will add Michelin as an official supplier of replacement tires for its motorcycles. Beginning mid-year, Michelin® motorcycle tires will be available at all Harley-Davidson dealerships across North America. Michelin has been manufacturing tires for motorcycles as long as motorcycles have existed. In fact, Michelin invented the radial motorcycle tire back in 1987. If you build/restore your own bike and want to ride on a set of Bibendom tires, you can make your own selection by going to the official Michelin USA Motorcycle Tires website.

Must be because Harley takes a bigger profit on Michelin tires.

not really, its because american labor unions went on strike for dunlop and harley almost ran out of tires, its a slap in the face to goodyear/dunlop to make a tire with the harley name on the side and have your contract canceled because of labor unions, i am neither pro nor anti union but it definetely cost them the contract and as a shop owner i couldnt get dunlops for awhile, it made me switch to selling metzlers and michelins, german and french companies, oh well we need to have tires to put on the motorcycles and if goodyear/dunlop cant supply them we must go elsewhere. imagine not having enough tires to put on brand new bikes as they roll off the assembley line, bad business. harley has made the right choice go with the consistent supplier and keep the production line rolling, i know they try to make maximum profit on everything but this tire deal was neccesity not profitability.

Dunlop has NEVER built a decent tire. Not one. They had the sweetheart of sweetheart deals with HD, and dropped the ball. Not 6 months ago, while looking for a new motorcycle for myself, I came upon an interesting fact:
YOU CAN”T BUY RADIAL TIRES….from ANY MANUFACTURER….for any HD other than the V-Rod. Wonder why?
As Big Honda found out with the Goldwing line, Radial tires….make a world of positive difference, especially in large motorcycles.
Harley Davidsons….would become the best bikes HD ever built….running with Radial tires. Stop better, RIDE infinitely better, and handle…like a different, much better motorcycle. Face it, bias ply tires went out in the 70’s….except with HD. They’re junk. Hell, here in Florida, the Monroe County Police just switched from HD…..to BMW’s! Odd….the motorcycle officers first comments were: “WOW, THESE BIKES HANDLE LIKE NIGHT AND DAY “, according to a recent newspaper article. Hmmmmm.
When HD can get away with charging over $400 for ANY pair of bias ply tires from Dunlop….and you can buy RADIAL tires for other motorcycles for less than that….it’s time for Radials.
Thank God that Dunlop slowed down. They’re telling Honda not to worry about getting Tour elite III’s too. Don’t worry….Honda doesn’t care…except for saving themselves money.
Harleys will only be lots better…if they are actually buying RADIALS from Michelin…or anyone other than Dunlop. Just another case of the unions killing American business….for greed.
Ever wonder how Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mercedes and others build the very same vehicles here….and are making more money? It’s called…no unions.
    Enough said.

Another moron talking out of his a$$hole – R.J. Unions, love um or hate um, are responsible for YOUR rate of income whether directly or indirectly. PERIOD.

unions have many warts..but they, along with mass production and cheap energy , helped build the middle class. without collective bargaining the owners/mgmt have all the power. unions give a little balance. why are middle class people always beating up on unions and never complaining about the investment class ,way over paid ceos, wall street etc who are KILLING the working class in america.
in most euro countries you dont have to worry about your company jacking with your health ins. /cause everyone is covered. not just those lucky enough to work for a certain company.
again ,not saying unions are perfect but seem a necessary thing in many situations
