Pay-Up Indian Motorcycle!.

Indian Motorcycle would like you to come up with the perfect slogan that will appear on their tee-shirts and banners at high profile events and rallies throughout the U.S. The author of any phrase or slogan used by the company will receive an Indian leather jacket, and if desired his (her) name and photo will appear on their website. I have nothing against asking the public to find a slogan (although it’s normally the job of an advertising agency after a rigorous briefing and an approved creative strategy). But, c’ mon Indian Motorcycle! You state in the competition rules that all entries will become the property of your company and may be used by Indian without limitation. It’s called cessation of all copyrights with no limitation of time, space (geographical location) and media supports (print, electronic, digital, audio visual, etc). Having spent 18 years of my life in advertising handling national blue chip accounts of companies like McDonald’s, Hertz, 3M, Merck, etc. I can tell you that an efficient slogan for a company name like Indian Motorcycle is worth a ton of money and for sure more than a jacket, leather or not. By the way the actual slogan “Pride Of The American Road” is a pretty good one. You have until June 1st to give away an intangible asset to Indian Motorcycle. For sure, it will not be me.

I’m not defending this marketing come on, but hey, at least it is a marketing come on. The factory has been quietly ramping up for more than a year and has offered little PR. Nothing wrong with keeping your head down while you get through the developmental hurdles, but there needs to be buzz.

I’m going to the Branson Indian Rally for the next nine days and will relate this concern to the owners of IMI who are attending if I get the chance. There are a lot of questions to be answered by the new Indian team, but most important is WHEN!

The PowerPlus is a drop dead gorgeous rounded cylinder retro motor and although it fills up a chop frame just dandy, it’s great to see it finding it’s way back into an OEM product.

Anyway, if the IMI come on for a free jacket doesn’t float yer boat, just do like Cyril… don’t enter.

A jacket for an international slogan? Indian is cheap. What about a bike?

This is a good sign of what type of things to expect from this new Indian company…mark my words….having followed and having friends involved with Indian lines and with this new venture it seems their goal (which from insiders…is to spend alot of OPM (other peoples moneys). I’d be really suprised if they actually roll a bike out and if they do, it won’t be even near the quality of the older bikes. But we’ll give them some rope, and see how long it takes to hang themselves….hmmmm….third time is a charm?!?!? Yeah.

Now that’s not an Excelsior Hanlon is it?

Well, I’ve never heard of a jacket-manufacturer offering a bike for a new slogan …
I agree with most of you : it’s cheap.

There are so much intelectual properties in the world that I wonder how come anything can be sold for at any given second somebody at one side of the world come’s up with the same idea as for an other in the other side of the world.

Let us be more humble and accept to give away what others already know.

    Take care and good luck.
