Cyril Huze Is 1 Year Old And Number 1 Motorcycle Blog

It was one year ago that I uploaded my 1st post telling you about my desire to create a Blog where I could share with you news, tech-tips, thoughts and all other things related to my passion for custom motorcycles. A web place allowing publication on a whim, when the mood strikes, when the influential people talk, when a new motorcycle or part is released, etc. A strong web presence permanently updated by me and by you through comments which are never filtered or censored. 564 posts and 3498 comments later, motorcycle enthusiasts, manufacturers and journalists from all over the v-twin industry and beyond have made this Custom Motorcycles Blog the # 1 in the world in terms of real traffic volume and number of daily pages visited. In a content saturated world, advertisers have also discovered the unique power of this Blog to present, display and promote their brands and products and also value it as a way to improve their products by listening to your comments. Blogging with real news, not copying and pasting info taken from other sites, is hard work that I enjoy very much. Even, if practically it means writing more than one post every day (mostly at night) wherever I am (thanks to Wi-Fi), searching and cropping pictures, calling or emailing industry leaders to fact check my info and of course fixing computer programming glitches (thanks to my son Damien at Wake Interactive). This Blog is a little bit like my diary and for sure a form of social networking around the same passion for motorcycles. With me you can make it even bigger and stronger by sending more news (true, I don’t publish junk news or any news), suggestions (I am always listening), writing comments (yes, I read them all) and for you advertisers, advertsing in it. One of the earliest promises about the internet was that it would put some of the power of the media back in the hands of regular people. Take it now.

    Keep up the good work!!!

  8. 8 Liz Oct 5th, 2007 at 1:54 pm

I was going to call you out on the same thing that Erin did but if you look at alexa with “motorcycleS” and not the standard “motorcycle” then Cyril’s site is number one (granted its a much smaller results list by more that 50%) so his statement is possibly correct.

Congrats on making it to the 1 year mark.

  9. 9 Cyril Huze Oct 5th, 2007 at 1:56 pm

Erin, I read your comment. It seems to me that you are confused. I confirm that we are # 1 custom motorcycle blog for the v-twin industry. You must confuse with motorcycle websites, and motorcycle news embracing all the motorcycle industry. We are a Blog, which is also different We talk to the custom motorcycle v-twin industry only. About our numbers they come from a reliable source called “Google Analytics” counting only the real visitors, not computer visits or spider visits. We are also # 1 in number of pages visited per visit.

  10. 10 Liz Oct 5th, 2007 at 2:11 pm

Now Cyril I have to call you out.

Erin is correct, alexa is the standard for determining traffic.

Google Analytics while a great tool only shows your visitors and offers you information about your site, it does not compare other sites to yours.

Basing your traffic claims on this info would be like me saying “I ride my bike faster than anyone in the world” and claiming that since I have only seen my speedo then I must be faster than anyone.

  11. 11 Cyril Huze Oct 5th, 2007 at 2:15 pm

We made the same reply above to “Erin” to the email address indicated on “her” post. We challenged her to justify her statements. But our email was returned ( erinjacobs@yahoo.com> Permanent Failure: Other address status Delivery last attempted at Fri,5 Oct 2007 17:58:23 -0000). Why people who post negative comments without justification don’t indicate a valid email address???

  12. 12 Cyril Huze Oct 5th, 2007 at 2:18 pm

Liz. No, Alexa is not the standard. Far from it (read online the imperfections of Alexa described in their own site). Alexais is an indication. 2- We talk about Blogs.

  13. 13 Cyril Huze Oct 5th, 2007 at 2:26 pm

Liz. When you search the keywords "motorcyle blogs" in Alexa, you don’t obtain a ranking by traffic, but a search ranking!!!. (the ones appearing first don’t have the most traffic!!!). A search ranking and traffic ranking are 2 different things. Check the Alexa traffic individually of all these sites. Also, the results of search is also the listing of "computer blogs" gathering all the posts from all the blogs published around the world, including all of ours. Example "Technocrati".

  14. 14 Liz Oct 5th, 2007 at 2:44 pm

Cyril. Working in the advertising industry, I realize you want to publish that you are #1 so more advertisers will be interested in your site.

True, alexa is an indication and will never be as accurate as actual server stats. However alexa is the web standard for determining site traffic as compared to other sites.

Also, I realize that you are claiming that your BLOG is number one among others in the “custom motorcycles blog” category. Since google analytics can not give you that information, what facts do you have to back up that statement if you are not getting numbers from alexa?

I am interested to know so that I may learn something new.

  15. 15 Cyril Huze Oct 5th, 2007 at 3:17 pm

If you are working in the advertising industry you should know. 1- that the search engine results have absolutely nothing to do with ranking. You didn’t seem to know! 2- Regarding being the # 1 in the category “custom motorcycle blog” go to Alexa.com. Enter our website address http://www.cyrilhuzeblog.com, and look at our Alexa traffic on their 3 criterias. Then pick any custom motorcycle blog website address of your choice (especially the ones you pretend have more traffic than us. You must know who they are. Don’t pick a Blog Portal)). Do the same and compare the results to ours. We challenge you to find any “custom motorcycle blog” (v-twin industry)in the world with more traffic. In addition, Cyril Huze Blog has more traffic than any custom motorcycle websites (V-Twin) except(OCC). Check it by entering in Alexa any websites addresses you want.

  16. 16 Rod Oct 5th, 2007 at 3:21 pm

Happy birthday to you & your blog.

  17. 17 Donnie Oct 5th, 2007 at 3:31 pm

And ladies, you don’t know what you are talking about. Cyril is right for his traffic. You did a dumb thing confusing Alexa search engine results with ranking. BTW, Alexa is a bad search engine that nobody uses. Google is the best. Alexa just gives indication on rankings in alexa.com (not in search engine function) but with very little info and many flaws they acknowledge themselves. I didn’t see any blog competitors of Cyril with more traffic!

  18. 18 Gary Semoens Oct 5th, 2007 at 3:33 pm

Long live Cyril and his Blog. Happy birthday.

  19. 19 Liz Oct 5th, 2007 at 3:47 pm

Cryil, apparently you are getting defensive, I never stated that search engine results have anything to do with “ranking”. If you look at my comments I said that when I looked at alexa under “custom motorcycles blog” as you stated above you were listed as number one. It was you that then claimed “Alexa is not the standard”.

You also claimed you are “# 1 custom motorcycle blog for the v-twin industry” and “# 1 in number of pages visited per visit”. I am not disputing that statement, nor am I “pretending” that any other sites have a level of traffic (I’ll let the word pretending slide since you are not a native English speaker) I am only asking where you get that information since you claim alexa is not the standard what measure do you go by?

Oh an for your last claim regarding “more traffic than any custom motorcycle websites (V-Twin) except(OCC)” you might want to look at the stats for westcoastchoppers.com

  20. 20 Cyril Huze Oct 5th, 2007 at 4:18 pm

Liz, 1- I never said that I was not looking at Alexa. I said that Alexa is a very partial view (with few stats) and a rough idea of traffic. I said that Google Analytics is the most reliable (free program)to know my real visitors and many other stats. Of course I cannot put a code in other websites to track them in Google. So, regarding comparing, we have a propriatery program using data from several sources and “translating” all data gathered. Costly and confidential. 2- You wrote above that Erin is right. Now that I challenge you to prove it , you state that I am not wrong. Even in Alexa that I consider not 100% reliable, no custom motorcycle blog is above us with more traffic. 3-About WCC you forget one thing. Cyril Huze Blog is a part of the website of Cyril Huze Customs (http://www.cyrilhuze.com). Cyril Huze Webstore (http://store.cyrilhuze.com)is also a part of the website Cyril Huze Customs. For analysis, we decided to separate the traffic of these 3 sites. So, Alexa ranks us independently. Add in Alexa the traffic of http://www.cyrilhuze.com, http://store.cyrilhuze.com and http://www.cyrilhuzeblog.com, all 3 parts of “Cyril Huze”, and “Cyril Huze” is well above WCC in traffic (WCC uses different URL’s but is analyzed as one URL address).

  21. 21 Jeremy Krauss Oct 5th, 2007 at 4:25 pm

i don’t care about stats because i am not an advertiser. but i read this blog almost every day and love it.

  22. 22 Gerald Braniff Oct 5th, 2007 at 4:37 pm

Liz & Cyril, are you going to hug each other? Picture! Stop working Cyril. It’s your special day. Happy birthday.

  23. 23 Liz Oct 5th, 2007 at 4:38 pm

Cyril, unfortunatly Erin’s comments have been removed but if you search alexa for custom motorcycle blog you will see your site comes up #13 in the list. To your point most of the sites above you are not devoted to custom motorcycles (ie technorati). However, what I said is when you search for custom motorcycleS blog then you come up #1.

As for your site(s) vs WCC here is the low down for all to see. I would argue that many of the people who look at your subdomain also look at your domain (probably why the numbers are so similar) and should only be counted as one person.

Now hopefully we have all made nice and learned something today. Since its a beautiful 75 degree day here I am going riding. Keep up the good work on your blog, I hope you make it another year.

  24. 24 Damien Oct 5th, 2007 at 4:46 pm

    I second that Gerald.

    Cyril,

I wish you the BEST for your birthday. I’ve had the pleasure of working with you on several occasions on engines builds as well as you showing support and donating graciously when I lost my wife to Lymphoma. Keep it going!

  26. 26 Cyril Huze Oct 5th, 2007 at 4:56 pm

Liz. You state again, like Erin, the same mistake. The results of a keywords search in a search engine have nothing to do with ranking. To come # 1 in search results for any site or my sites doesn’t mean you are #1 in traffic. It’s easy for you to check this.

  27. 27 Cyril Huze Oct 5th, 2007 at 5:01 pm

Liz, you make another mistake. A person can enter 1 of the 3 parts of my website cyrilhuze.com and don’t go to the other parts. So, to consider that a visitor of http://www.cyrilhuzeblog.com is necessarely a visitor of http://www.cyrilhuze.com is also wrong. Let’s meet at a next rally and argue friendly around a cup of coffee.

  28. 28 Asa Oct 5th, 2007 at 5:59 pm

Man, What up with all the stats? I for one Love your site and blog ,I visit it everyday and so does all my friends so keep up the good work and Happy Birthday, By the way Cyril dont lower yourself to the level of justifing yourself to people wanting to make a wave we all know your #1 some folks just go to these sites to stir up a smell you know ? You are above that Stae the truth as you have done let them go make waves somewhere else. ab

I subscribed at the launch. Still my preferred custom motorcycle news source.

  33. 33 James Oct 5th, 2007 at 11:26 pm

Cyril is right, Alexa is crap. It is based on a statistical sample which can be erroneous and gamed. Use Quantcast if you want to learn about the traffic to a site.

Happy Birthday and keep posting. James – Whybike.com

Check out QuantCast http://www.quantcast.com, I personally think it’s more reliable than Alexa, and it allows you to look at the stats of other sites. Alexa is heavily slanted towards a South Korean audience, as that’s where it initially started.

  43. 43 Rodney Adkins Oct 8th, 2007 at 1:45 pm

Cyril here is a new stat that just came out you are by far my favorite blog and I got the data to back it up.
