Malcolm Smith Joins Brenda Fox For Sturgis Breast Cancer Ride

Hall of Fame, Motorcycle Icon Malcolm Smith from the legendary film “On Any Sunday” joins motorcyclist journalist Brenda Fox in leading the Sturgis Breast Cancer Ride. Malcolm Smith, one of the most multi-faceted competitors ever to take to the dirt wowed fans for over three decades with numerous trips to the victory podium. His racing career included six Baja 1000 victories, four Baja 500 wins, eight gold medals at the International Six Day Trials (ISDT) and a collection of four-wheel victories. However, it was his co-starring role in the movie epic On Any Sunday that garnered him the most recognition. Produced by Bruce Brown and Steve McQueen, the movie helped launch America’s love affair with dirt biking – and introduced Malcolm to scores of new fans. This year’s event will benefit Brenda Fox, a motorcycle journalist and spokesperson for women in motorcycling. Brenda has been battling with breast cancer issues and rising medical bills. This year’s ride and charity auction proceeds will assist her in getting through this difficult time. The ride begins Thursday August 7 at 12.00 Noon starting from the Top 50 Rally Park. It will be lead by Laura Klock (spouse of Brian), the woman holding the land speed record for the World’s Fastest Bagger. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the registration fee is $15 per person. Donations via Paypal are set up on Women Motorcyclist.

To those of you already familiar with the Legend Top 50 Park and the Women’s Ride or to those of you just being exposed to it now. Lets not forget the women who supported the ride last year representing either themselves or loved ones who have breast cancer. My wife Michelle rode solo her first time in the black hills last year in support of her mothers battle against breast cancer. I believe there were approximately 30 riders last year, please help them to double or triple that number this year.

    Hi All
People like Malcom Smith, Jessie/Tyna, Skip Van Leeuwen, Tom Seymour, Tom White, New York Mike, Cyril Huze, Donnie Emde, Doug Zaricor and many others made this sport what it is. It is stand up people like this that are always there to help others in our community. When I sent out a message that Brenda needed help, they were there immediatly. Brenda is one of our own and needs all the help she can get. If you are going to Sturgis this year please make the ride. It could not be for a better person. Joe Phillipson

Thank you to everyone supporting Brenda!
I know many of you have seen her on TV riding motorcycles, that’s how we met her and she’s been family ever since. Life dealt her a tough hand, she had horrible personal issues at the same time going thru Breast Cancer so all your support mean way more than you may know.

    Thank you,
    GEORGE BARRIS

I had the privalage to talk to Brenda and do an article on her and this issue for our magazine. She is one of the most “real” and personable people I have ever met. Through her and wanting to learn more on my own, I have seen what a devastating disease this is. In the time it has taken me to compose my thoughts and write this, 3 women have been told they have the disease and at least one has died from it.
This is everyone’s chance to support both Brenda in her time of need, and all women against this disease. If you can be there and go on this ride, do so. If you can’t be there, go to womenmotorcyclist.com and make a donation. It’s the motorcycling “family” that has gotten her through so far, let’s show her that she has the largest family in the world with our continued support.
After all, as Brenda said ” Everyone appreciates a healthy set of hooters!”

I just learn of the site from my riding buddies this morning.

I’m an old dirt bike guy who loves my shovelhead and twin cam equal I figured everyone knew of the movie On and Sunday. I find it odd that some motorcyclist are not aware of it.t – in my book it mandatory for anyone who rides.
I support this and as noted in a previous post – I couldn’t imagine any guy who would support “the girls”. Great cause and Cyril – very impressive and informative blog.

I believe we should be doing everything we can in the battle against breast cancer. After all, you can never have too many healthy breasts around. And I think I speak for many American males. (At least, the heterosexual ones.)
