Daytona Bike Week Flash News 1

daytonabeachshoresGetting updates coming from Daytona (I will arrive Monday morning). I hear that arrivals yesterday and this morning are a little bit slow. But it’s only Friday. Is it going to be Bike Weak? (no, it’s not a typo) – Billy lane called me. His mind is full of new projects. I admire him for this. He will be in Daytona most of the time at 2-Wheelers on Main street with his new purchased “Timeless” bike. Should not stay stock a long time. I am in charge to show  the “Timeless’ to the foreign press – Tuesday’s Builders Breakfast is cancelled. Bummer. Charity work is the 1st to suffer –  Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona is the new coffee place. Arrive soon (before 9am) and you get a chance to get a parking place and a coffee before lunch arrives – Beach Street seems to get some new interest. Paul Yaffe should setup there, waterway side – Nice sunny weather (78-58 F) should hold till Sunday (rain), and sunny again to mid week.

I am riding up this morning (Sat). I expect it will be a good event.
I have noticed Welcome Bikers signs in Motels over 100 miles from Daytona indicating to me many are staying out side of the city for the better rates.
There are activities and parties in much of the surrounding area as well.
Everyone should find plenty to do and enjoy themselves.

The weather was gorgeous for the opening day of Daytona Bikeweek 2009, and the day closed with a gala biker bash at the Museum of Florida Art – The Art of Chrome & Leather VI. There is an all-day Saturday Pro-Am Bike Show and rally with headliner music – Big Engine (Rock) and The Nighthawks (THE best Blues Band, out of Washington DC), and “Easy Rider” movie on the big screen today in DeLand, 18 miles due west of Daytona Beach on US 92. A Celebrity Ride leaves from the Museum at 11 a.m. Sunday and ends with a BBQ bash next to the speedway at the Daytona Kennel Club. I am heading to the DeLand event – that includes a Pro-Am Bike Show right now… sure hope the weather holds up for it… a little scattered rain in the forecast… but who knows in Florida, right?

Oh… “Easy Rider” will be on the big screen at the restored 1930’s Athen’s Theatre on Sunday at 5 and 7:30 p.m., too.. If you haven’t been to “Delightful DeLand” you should check it out… it’s a trip in itself – like Disney’s Celebration Florida – except it’s not fake – one of the oldest towns in Florida and home to the oldest private university – Stetson. I will (hopefully) post pictures of both events on the bikeweek community site by tonight.

See you at Charlie’s gig on Monday, Cyril? And maybe we should all meet Wednesday AM for coffee at Dest Daytona, in lieu of the Builder’s Breakfast this year. (Hope it’s back for Daytona next year – still planning on Sturgis). Though I’m afraid 10 AM, not 9, is more my style. Someone saving a parking space?

MJ, great advice on stopping in Deland. And thanks for mention of the show at the art museum, hadn’t heard about that.

The rally is attendance is way down considerably. I was on main street about midnight taking pictures and the bike traffic was very slow. There was a one block interval between each bike. The streets walkers was slow too.

The hotels are reporting being down 50% from the same time last year. Speaking of hotels if you want to save some money, you can get 20% off your stay at the Best Western, Holiday Inn. Hilton and the Coral beach location by simply mentioning BikerDATA at check in. 20% can help during these bad times. The hotel numbers are at my home page.

David Uhl’s Bike Week painting looked awesome on display at Destination Daytona. If you get a chance to check David out it s well worth the trip. You can actually watch David in action painting. He is a very talented man.

Posting images from yesterday in my gallery now so take care and safe riding.

Remember to: “LOOK TWICE, SAVE A LIFE” Motorcycles are Everywhere!

Art In Motion LLC is at Bike Week at The Battlegrounds on US-1 next to Chopper Challenge (Country Music TV) with custom baggers & trikes. The 360 Brake Company is here next to us. Boss Hoss is also here at the Battlegrounds. AIM has some great new products to show & sell that we found up at the V-twin expo including Ride Wright Wheels, the new Vstream windshield.

Of course, we also have our AlphaBoyz (c) and AlphaChix (c) Biker Wedding apparel collection on display.

From everything we’re hearing, the early traffic is higher than usual for this time of bike week. We had a steady stream of people all day yesterday until dark.
