A very long time, by motorcycle industry standard, that I belong to this industry. And of course a lot of people, custom builders, vendors, manufacturers and show promoters that I have seen come & go. Evidently our US recession has also been a catalyst for this turnover. Sometimes I know what went wrong and where do friends went.
But some made a transition by choice just for a change of lifestyle. Quite often it’s much later that I know about their new profession. So, where are they now? Maybe a series I will continue with others you may have known years ago. I just got a tip from reader Fred Proctor that John Covington, ex-bossman of “Surgical Steeds” in Arizona made a successful transition from Bike Builder to Art Photographer. I have known John since 1993 when we rode together in a group riding from Scottsdale, AZ to Telluride, CO for a promo movie for Neiman Marcus (do you remember Mike Lichter?). John Covington is now doing awesome photography with of course as inspiration cars, motorcycles, tattoos & women…He also did a book called “Boundless” being released this weekend. By the way he also has been a heavy rock drummer nicknamed the “pulverizer”. Jump to his site for amazing photography. Hey, when you are an artist you remain an artist. John Covington Studios.
Good to see that John landed on his feet. I’ve always enjoyed dealing with him.. Good luck John
Thanks for the introduction to another great one, didn’t know his current or past work – very nice stuff here Cyril.
The series idea would make some more great reads.
John

Hey John,
My brother Jim and I have always been impressed with your work since the old days of Surgical Steeds. Great to hear of your successes my friend.
I will be picking up a copy of Boundless this week, and looking forward to another signed copy later on.
John Covington has been a friend since we met years ago shooting his Cobra Bike on the Colorado River at the Laughlin run. We spoke last week after I received the invitation to his showing. Wish I could have come over to Arizona, but I ordered his book and looking forward to the photos. John is a really talented artist, musician and bike builder. Good luck John, see next time in LA. I
I met John during my tenure at Hot Rod Bikes, hanging with the De Weerd Bros…..talk about where are they now…during the first ever AZ Bike week. Your work is amazing John…I will buy your book but only if you autograph it for me. Hope to run into you soon somewhere down the road!
Rebecca
Well, I wondered where Mr. Covington went!
Good to see you are doing fine work, although with a different medium.
Although, I’ll always remember the Laughlin River Run when you would bring those big bad bikes of yours to the show. As I recall, the one with a 135″ motor needed electric AND kick start to get it going!
Great to hear you are doing well. Congrats on your new venture. I am sure that the passion your demonstrated withing the bike world will be exhibited in your art.
Thanks again for all the love! First edition Boundless books are going fast…REBECCA I have my pen in hand! Here’s where you can get one! http://www.JCStudiosLLC.com/Boundless
