Motorcycle Themed Luxury Iron Horse Hotel Struggling To Pay Debts

ironhorsehotel1ironhorsehotel2Opened 14 months ago, The Milwaukee Iron Horse Hotel, the 1st st. world-class motorcycle-themed luxury hotel became reality. Located close by the Harley-Davidson Museum, the hotel is now facing serious financial difficulties. Tim Dixon, the developer acknowledged that  he owes creditors about $1.2 million. He said he has told them that he expects to begin making payments in May 2010 when the $22 million project is expected to begin to make enough money. To avoid agreement, Dixon’s company is looking for forbearance agreements with its lenders. Anyone at Harley thinking that motorcycle tourism business is a good investment?

I live in Milwaukee. When I heard about this hotel, naturally I had to check it out. Upon arrival it is definitely cool. But the concept of $12 mixed drinks and $6 beers sucks. $299/night hotel rooms… are you kidding me?

This place was built for the yuppy riders that don’t even ride anymore because they are either too old or lost interest in riding.

I wonder if HD executives assisted in planning this? Bad decision.

i didnt have any drinks when i was there, and with those prices im glad i didnt. the decor is great, but the prices will keep me out.

i did talk to some guys that were staying there and they seemed real proud that they were.

$299/night?!?!?! Hell you can stay at Casa Marina in Key West for less than that, or in a bungalow on the beach in Bora Bora for that. I see a for sale sign in their future.

    for sale? how about forclosure…

I’m surprised they are not doing well. The place was built for rubs and the rubs are still spending money.

For that kind of dough, stay at the Pfister a few blocks away and enjoy some REAL style.

They are doing pretty well in terms of sales, and yes, developer is going through some harsh times right now. As ALL the developers in the city! So stop hating! Embrace your city, that hotel is helping OUR city and OUR state by giving at least 100 jobs, bringing business and encouraging other developers to to revitalize 5th Ward.

And yes, it can be pricey, but i’ve stayed there through Priceline for $114/night! $12 cocktails? so?! look at any other lounge in MKE, same pricing. You can get Miller Lite just for $3 there just like in any other bar.

book your half-off room via Priceline from your smart phone while sitting in their bar drinking Happy Hour priced-drinks

I see some yuppy hatters have hit the blog. I’m not even sure what the hell a yuppy is anymore. I think there what we called RUBs. But I did stay at the Iron Horse twice this summer. On my ride out out to Sturgis and back (and no I did not trailer). I’ve been riding over years, and I’m leaning towards ole school because I dont know anything else. I still support bikers and the community we have built over the years. Your $299 grip is crap. I never paid that much at the IH, you gotta shop for your deals at any hotel. The rooms are cool, food was friggin fantastic, yeah you can spend some cash on high end call drinks, we did $4 shots all night. If Tim Dixon is in trouble for going on out on a limb to create a 1st class bike themed hotel, then dont we as a community owe him the support. I for one will be there again next August, and if you cant afford a beer there, come on by anyway, the first ones on me.

Yuppie? What’s up with all that? Am I to be looked down upon because I worked my ass off to go to college? And I work my ass of every day to make a good living. Does that make me uncool? Maybe if you did less rock throwing and more working, you wouldn’t have to worry about how much everything costs. Sounds like some of the hardcore bikers are a little jealous.

My fiance and I just stayed there on Friday and the place is AMAZING! We paid about $140/nt for 1 king bed. This is definately going to be our new spot when we just need a quick get-away. We are so happy to have found one of the few hotels in the area that has style; It’s like spending a night in Anthropolgy-a dream come true!

    Iron Horse, WE LOVE YOU!
