Is it a new trend for some? I already know of a few custom motorcycle builders who are devoting some time designing and building one-off bicycles. Is it because as teenagers it’s the way they learn their welding skills? A little bit more time on their hands because business has slowed down? The request of some bicycle manufacturers acknowledging the fresh ideas and craftsmanship that they can bring to them?
Whatever the reason(s), I feature “Ol Rusty”, a bicycle built by Chopper Custom Builder Steve Garn, a.k.a. Brew, a member of the Limpnickie Lot Collective, who is probably the only one in the motorcycle industry who has a background in BMX bikes. Coming from him, no surprise it’s a rigid recycling old parts: Reworked Excell 1991 tubes, a 1965 Bendix Internal 2-speed kick back hub with coaster brake, a 1970 Zeus World front hub, a Brew hand made True Bullhorn handlebar/stem combo with 12 gauge bar plugs, etc. Frame didn’t rust with time but is a “rust brown” powdercoating treatment. It was recently exhibited at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show. Very cool and Ol’ Rusty is for sale. Now look at Brew’s motorcycles and frames. Brew Bikes LLC.
