Custom OCC Burgers And Chopped Fried Chicken Coming Near You. Really?

Fans of Orange County Choppers are not reading my Blog. Or are they doing it discreetly and remain silent? They must be somewhere or The Learning Channel will not continue to renew the America Chopper Show and Advent Entertainment (a very successful company in the theme restaurant biz) would not have acquired the exclusive international licensing rights to develop, own and operate Orange County Choppers Roadhouse, a full-service restaurant, bar, microbrewery, gaming, hospitality, retail and entertainment experience.

When the 8,500 sq.-ft. flagship opens this summer in Newburgh, NY, you can expect comfort food (fried chicken, macaroni, pizza, burgers), a “Keg Room” with 165 beers on tap (flowing from free standing kegs to the tap through exposed pipes running across the ceiling), a live music area and of course a big retail store for the tee-shirts hungry. After that, the plan is to roll out additional restaurants in cities ranging from Miami to Las Vegas to Dubai. And who am I to judge OCC food? (rendering of first restaurant in NY)

Sure would be interesting to see the business plan for this venture.
Or the loan application that got it funded.

When you order food does it come with that NY bad attitude or do they argue with you like SR. would. Given the need to make up cash due to low bike sales I bet that is one expensive place to eat and drink.

We can harp all we want on the merits or non merits of these actors/builders/marketing revenue seekers on this point and/or all the other blog rants for and against OCC and such others as Lamas and custom leather lines, etc., etc. and it is irrelevant whether it is true biker or not as the money people could care less about the buy-in of perceived true biking viewpoints in so much as it is all marketing study ROI driven/audience counts/fab-fad/ capturing/milking the teeshirt wearing inclusive wannebee needy amongst us to quinch their soap opera, voyer instincts/needs of those that live their lives in front of a boob tube and dress the part thus giving credence for 6 years and counting in viewership: read continuing advertising exposure counts and discretionary branding cash letting purchasing quantites as their numbers far outway the biker lifestyle only numbers and such the outlays of continuing evolving shows, branded products, boob tube dependents thirst.

People have always jumped on and off bandwagons no matter the wagon just to be a part of/inclusive in. The money people read the counts, analize the audience and advertising merits and push it forward to exploit and milk it for all its worth as long as its profitable. There are reasons midday TV has had soap opera running for decades. Some have lives to live more live thru presentations put forth. We just fuel the fire and keep it on the front page so to speak and they love it as it serves their path. We are doing them a service by also shining the light on it.

This has been in the works for a long time. When Rick Fairless interviewed Jr and Sr on our radio show in August of 2008 they said they were working with a company to make themed restaurants and it was the same company that runs Rainforest Cafe. They said it will have a Hardrock Cafe-type feel and be full of motorcycle memoribilia. Glad to see it’s finally happening. Should be interesting. Good luck to them!

Also, for OCC fans reading this, Rick recently did an interview with Vinnie on his show about working with Jr and the new TV show. Even if you’re not a fan, you’ve gotta hand it to OCC- they always have something up their sleeve…

Great idea and it will make money for all concerned if it is done right. 165 beers! That alone is good enough for me to do a visit.

OCC is huge with huge fan base. People like to associate with individuals they see on TV and possibly live different lives than they do nothing new here. Hard Rock Cafe gets a lot of visitors becuase its all about the experience of burgers and good music.

We did an interview recently on Hog Radio with Danny Koker Counts Kustoms who also is co-owner of Feelgoods Bar and Grill with Vince Neil out of Vegas. It works because they get top entertainment and have a good place for people to hang.

Question is will it work to expand beyond the epicenter? Only time will tell. Best to get the one up and running then expand.

Speaking of chains who would have though Hooters would still be going strong but it is as is Quaker Steak and Lube chains.

P.S. If it puts people to work we can all be thankful for that.

  11. 11 CAROLYN TOMAS-KIWI INDIAN MOTORCYCLES May 13th, 2010 at 11:46 am

I’m gonna go & check the place out, I love food & bikes. I hope they make an OCC Roadhouse near L.A. or somewhere in So. Cal. Maybe they will make OCC frozen food, so we can pick it up at a grocery store. Everyone have a good weekend.

  12. 12 Troy May 13th, 2010 at 11:58 am

If it is a Hard-Rock Café type feel and full of motorcycle memorabilia, food & drink, it could be a great place.

  13. 13 ODee May 13th, 2010 at 2:13 pm

This might not be all that bad of an idea.

This looks like a good place for yuppies to take their co-workers, kids (and/or grandchildren) to proudly show off their Wal-mart O.C.C. gear while overpaying for wings, burgers and beer! Keeps the lines shorter at the real bars, and provides a more ‘kid friendly’ environment for those so inclined.

Sounds like a win-win to me.

I have had the blessing or curse of having people attack my ideas and works so I understand what it is like to have both those that appreciate my work as well as those that claim I am an idiot. But I always go to my office either at my shop or home and read the following it has been inspirational to me and may help some of you understand why you think the way you do.

    The Penalty of Leadership
In every field of human endeavor, he that is first must perpetually live in the white light of publicity. Whether the leadership be vested in a man or in a manufactured product, emulation and envy are ever at work. In art, in literature, in music, in industry, the reward and the punishment are always the same. The reward is widespread recognition; the punishment, fierce denial and detraction. When a man’s work becomes a standard for the whole world, it also becomes a target for the shafts of the envious few. If his work be merely mediocre, he will be left severely alone – if he achieve a masterpiece, it will set a million tongues a-wagging. Jealousy does not protrude its forked tongue at the artist who produces a commonplace painting. Whatsoever you write, or paint, or play, or sing, or build, no one will strive to surpass or to slander you, unless your work be stamped with the seal of genius. Long, long after a great work or a good work has been done, those who are disappointed or envious continue to cry out that it cannot be done. Spiteful little voices in the domain of art were raised against our own Whistler as a mountebank, long after the big world had acclaimed him its greatest genius. Multitudes flocked to worship at the shrine of Wagner, while the little group of those whom he had dethroned and displaced argued angrily that he was no musician at all. The little world continued to protest that Fulton could not build a steamboat, while the big world flocked to the river to see his boat steam by. The leader is assailed because he is the leader, and the effort to equal him is merely added proof of that leadership. Failing to equal or to excel, the follower seeks to depreciate and to destroy – but only confirms once more the superiority of that which he strives to supplant. There is nothing new in this. It is as old as the world and as old as the human passions – envy, fear, greed, ambition, and the desire to surpass. And it all avails nothing. If the leader truly leads, he remains – the leader. Master-poet, master-painter, master-workman, each in his turn is assailed, and each holds his laurels through the ages. That which is good or great makes itself known, no matter how loud the clamor of denial. That which deserves to live – lives.

I learned of this from a friend of mine how knew Elvis Presley. He told me Elvis had read this and felt it was talking about his life. As I read it I got that same feeling as if it were speaking too me and I am sure some of you that read it will feel as if it is speaking to you. Hope you Leaders all enjoy it and you followers will realize why you slam people constantly. Anyone can be a leader but you must first create a path for others to follow.

oh man…. i see the points being made by opinion and producer. i love beer and especially good beer. 165 of ’em can’t be all pbr and miller lite. still, others make a great point that it will be overpriced with crappy food and socially incompetent clientele. seriously though, how do we know that?

my research shows that they plan “mid-priced hearty portions” to fill their fat walmart shoppers who have never ridden a motorbike in their lives and think occ’s tv show is the epitome of bikers and builders. they’ll pay the price for a ton crappy food, probably twice what any healthy person should eat, perpetually extending the excess and waste the show has portrayed numerous times. the walmart douches will be thrilled to feel connected to what they think is real. it is real. and sad. i’m reminded of the famous quote by p.t. barnum, “there’s a sucker born every minute.”

funny that paul senior’s initials are p.t. paul teutul barnum. hysterical.

those of us here who ride, build, manufacture, fabricate and live it, know better. sadly, their fans do not. they just watch tv and believe the corporate package of what is proclaimed as agenda-free. and they are on tlc. i remember when that meant “the learning channel.” now it’s all fluff for women and it seems middle-aged housewives love occ.

besides, i imagine the teutuls are great to everybody who meets them as they’re aware that being jerkoffs to the public will be the kiss of death. the employees from senior’s steel biz say he and his kids are stand up americans who work hard and try to do the right thing.

what i saw on that show for two years before i turned it off forever showed something else. it showed laziness, destruction, misplaced rage, self-entitlement, and ugly egos. not from everybody, just a few, but enough to for me to consider my time watching their drama a waste. especially when they started building bikes for corporations, becoming cake decorating whores. the historical antithesis of what being a biker is supposed to mean.

i do not wish them failure, only success, and it will probably succeed, but unless curiosity gets the best of me, i will never be seen in one of their joints.

    Just-My………

    Interesting.

    Ya might ask Mr. MacManus;
How is it we NEVER hear ANY “Spiteful little voices in the domain” ragging on Ness….???
(certainly none that i’ve ever heard)

Is it just possible there’s a little more than just “disappointment or envy” going on here…???

    Just a thought.
