Harley-Davidson To Celebrate 25th Anniversary Of Spin Magazine

An interesting event for those living around New-York City and one susceptible to attract young riders to the Harley-Davidson Dark Custom Series. Tomorrow July 26, 25 Harley-Davidson VIP riders in addition to New-York personality Wass Stevens and artist Wes Lang will make a grand entrance on brand new Dark Custom motorcycles to the SPIN Magazine Anniversary event that will feature performances by The Smashing Pumpkins, Kill Hannah and The Jim Jones Review.

SPIN magazine is an excellent music magazine that I read from time to time, that has been known since 1985 for giving the first national exposure to many of history’s most important recording artists. The publication has since expanded to be a monthly resource for all things prominent in music. The program is as follow: Monday July 26. Harley-Davidson VIP Riders Arrive at Terminal 5 (610 W. 57th St., NYC). Show starts at 8pm with alternative rock n’ roll bands. The Smashing Pumpkins. July 27. The Flaming Lips. July 28. The Black Keys. July 29. The National. July 30. Spiritualized at Radio City Music Hall. And of course there will be an exhibition of the full Harley-Davidson Dark Custom Series: The Nightster, Iron 883, Cross Bones, Fat Bob, Street Bob and the new Forty-Eight.

Great bands, cool bikes. Exactly what Harley needs to do. To be exposed to the young riders via their music. Harley should be associated with the music festival at Monkey Rock in Sturgis where the youngest bands are playing. The buffalo chip concerts should be sponsored by AARP

Is Sturgis even a draw to the younger crowd? Maybe, but I’d think there are other events that they could work to draw more younger riders.

Great bands but who are the VIPs? Never heard of them. It would seem that H-D should try to get some young, familiar faces (ie, actors and rock stars) on their bikes – guys who are under 40-45 years old. Oh well, I suppose it’s a step in the right direction. Glad to see the Motor Co. learned from the Elton fiasco.
