On September 10, 2010 the green flag will be waved to pre-1916 motorcycles like Pope, Sears, Flying Merkel, Excelsior, Henderson, Indian, Triumph, and the Harley-Davidson’s Silent Grey Fellows, and riders will be thumping their way from the US east coast to the west for the Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run. I have quite a few friends participating to this 2-week event, and this video shows you one of them, Japanese born and US based Shinya Kimura, preparing the 1915 Indian twin he will ride.

I can never get too much of Shinyu’s working environment. Everything in that garage reeks with coolness.
Good luck for the challenge to all participants.
This whole thing is the essence of motorcycling. A bunch of guys doing something unique simply for the love of riding and the love of bikes. Good luck to all of them.
And one American girl!!
This is a great article, and if nothing else on their ride they have fun.
These are on close-out sale.

Have a great trip. You guys & gals should be able to find someone that can make a secure sheepskin cover for the seat. Comfy at mile 2,459.
Can you ride with no hands on one of those “puddle jumpers”? Just long enough to take a toke from a hash-pipe? 🙂 Stay ripped.
You folks will have an unforgettable adventure.
Your shops chomp. It’s fun to work at a bench where all your stuff is where you left it.
I talk to my motorcycles all the time. Tell them which one’s going to be worked on today, and what work will be done in the future, to the others leaning on kick-stands.
The k-belt above is for kids.
Here’s one from JCW. Extra large though.

Wear something around your neck. A lot of body heat is lost from a bare neck.
Foam earplugs are a must.
Don’t drink coffee, it makes you pee.
Vest’s are good to have on hand. Keeps the wind from blasting your chest.
Sometimes a vest is all you need, that and a tube of SPF-50.
I have two vests if you want them. They’ll fit. Canvas w/quilted interior. One’s khaki, the others one’s black.
They both have V-Twin on the left and “kirk” on the right. You can take a magic marker and make the “K” into an “R”.
One of you can be Kirk and the other one Rick.
Lemme know. I’ll roll them up tight and put them in a priority box.
Wool stays warm when it’s soaking wet.
Wet cotton doesn’t.
