Since 1977 his name is Fred “DUB” Duban and after winning quite a few important European bike shows as an “independent amateur builder”, in 2003 he opened his shop in France and is now considered one of the best bike builders of the old continent. For this project he got the best briefing any custom builder can dream of: “make it fast and only in deep glossy black” (heard this one before.)
Well, after 1 year of labor Philippe received his fast and glossy black street racer/cruiser 8MDM bike (name of the bike is letter coded by Fred Duban, and as a joke on himself, when translated, means the 8th World’s Marvel.) Because there was no wish list at briefing (except color) “Dub” was nice enough to give his client not only 2 keys but also a full tech sheet of the parts he used…
It starts with a custom Softail type frame with 33–degree of rake and an in-house “Dub Performance Wide Street Racer” swingarm moving on an SAS air shock system. Front suspension is provided via an inverted Ohlins front end using a “DUB Performance” wide glide triple-tree on which a V-Rod headlight was installed and using the shop risers and bars.. Engine is S&S Twin Cam 2000 cc breathing via a DUB air cleaner. Transmission is Baker 5-speed RSD with belt final drive. Gas tank and rear fender (welded to frame) are both in-house fabricated. The 3-spoke 120/70/18″ front wheel is from a V-Rod, the 300/35/18″ rear wheel is made by DUB, both rollers using Beringer brakes. And Fred to conclude his parts listing by telling me that the 8MDM black paint job is deeper than any black I have ever seen before. Well, the client is convinced. DUB Performance.
thank you my friend !
Like the exhaust
The V-rod headlight always looks better when not on a V-rod.
I too like the exhaust. The whole thing flows very nicely, quite unique without being totally outside the box.
Wow! This piece of hell seems to be real rod-killer! But the image is a bit spoil by tremendous difference in size of front and back wheels.
Where can I buy one in Florida?
This bike is very tasteful…. and the girl too … 😉
Congrats Fred, well done!
MBW,
I think what’s causing that is the shorty fender in the rear. A couple inches longer and you wouldn’t notice.
Anyway, beautiful bike…three nice rides in that last pic too.
Good and clean job Fred
Love your work Fred 🙂 Simply……….Pure Genius!
Very, very nice. It looks all buisness like a Ferrari on two wheels!!! I think Fred is going to have to offer the exhaust up for sale. Quite stunning.
Too cool, Pipes are great, I know there are more restrictions on custom bikes in Europe, this is a winner anywhere. Back in black..to the max..
lovely clean looking bike
and again fred love the pipes.you could be on to a winner there.
Absolutely stunning and in my two favorite colors…black and chrome. Great bike Fred!
nice, but the rear tire’s a little too big…
Fred, Tits Up ! This Bike is SEXY. This Bike has Eyes and is 99% Gorgeous. I Agree 100% with jim, Rear Tire is to big for the kind of Performance that this Bike looks like it was designed for! Ferrari on 2 Wheels is a great description. I will bet Dub’s next one might be RED!
I forgot to say why only 99%, Mirrors are useless !
Truely sweet
Very nice lines. Looks a little low at front of frame but, while one can’t go on looks alone, looks like it rides nice. peace
i make the same for the WRC world champion !
but not in red !!!! in grey mat !
