Senior Versus Junior TV Series And Lawsuits. Reality Bites When Lights Go Out.

Your favorite TV motorcycle show to hate, “Senior versus Junior”, an extension of “American Chopper”, drew to a close last Monday evening at 10 pm.  Haters, don’t rejoice. Expect 100’s of  hours of rerun, here in the US and abroad. Lovers, rejoice for exactly the same reason…

The series ended with no closure between father and sons. Personally, with its constant quest for drama to attract and keep viewership, I always found the show quite annoying, even painful to watch. Because of the type of motorcycle work done front of the cameras, but also because I will never belong to those who find any pleasure seeing a “new rich” family self-destruct about money issues.

A too long digital trip I just made around the web to read the comments posted about the Teutuls shows a majority of viewers taking side with Paul Junior, with show lovers asking for a new series featuring only Paul Junior Design shop. They even go to debate at length those ex OCC collaborators who would create the perfect bike building team for Paul Junior…

Since its debut, the show went from feud for publicity stunt to real professional (yes Paul Senior has an urgent financial need to reorganize OCC) and personal drama. My point of view regarding reality shows is that reality bites when TV lights go out. Not having any TV show casting the Teutuls would be the best way for this family to resolve all their issues. Knowing both parties, I really wish them the best. But I am afraid that TV acting and the money going with it overwhelm again their senses about what is really essential in life. Discovery channel executives, you care only about ratings, not about them. But please, leave them alone. They have well enough money to happily retire in peace with each other.

February 10, 2011. 8.30 am., Paul Teutul Jr. reveals that the series “Senior vs. Junior” has been renewed for a second season set to air this spring.

AND I MUST SAY AFTER SEEING JR’S BIKES IN CINCI (NOT MY STYLE) THEY WERE ACTUALLY FINISHED REAL WELL. SO..TO EACH HIS OWN ABOUT THE TV STUFF..BUT TO QOUTE RODNEY KING “CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG” SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS MY KEYBOARD IS BROKE..OF TO WALMART TO BUY ANOTHER 9.99 PRODUCT THAT SHOULD BE MADE IN AMERICA

Great remarks Cyril. You summmarized very well what industry professionals with family values think of the Teutuls. I agree with you that the best thing, a reconciliation, can happen only with no camera around them. Overall, as a matter of fact, the OCC saga is a very sad story,

  4. 4 Brian Feb 8th, 2011 at 6:52 pm

Paulie is going to continue his life as a very average builder with lots of money at the bank. Senior is going to disappear, first spending at least a couple years cleaning the OCC financial mess (buiding, equipment), then enjoying his personal millions during retirement. And life goes on…

    You have it Spot-on.

When the viewers start to be embarrassed for the actors, because of their behavior, then it’s time to pull the plug.

Perhaps it’s finally become “painfully” obvious, even to those who didn’t see it before, that this sort of behavior in the media spotlight is about as counter productive as racing up and down residential streets with open headers.

I think Paul Jr is at blame here. Sr has tried so hard to get to his son and he cant, Jr blames his dad, his dad blames arrogance.. I blame the poeple taking advantage of Sr. I like both of them and since I met then in 2003 they have been NOTHING but kind gentlemen to me as well as to my father.

I know how it is being a father and son team, I work along side my dad on a daily basis. I love him to death of course but we do not always see Eye to Eye. We have our feuds and our yells at eachother but at the end of the day it is still father and son. Work is difficult when you mix that in but it can work just fine. I think Jr is a very talented artist, bike builder ehhhh not so much. Sr, i think he is a lucky genius but a very nice, intelligent man.

With that said, the lawsuit is business, the relationship is family. Get over it guys and be father son. Let the other bullshit go away and call it a day, in the end the money does not mean a damn thing if you dont have your father to turn to or a son to talk to. Grow up guys and let his shit pass, its just money and not worth breaking up a family over.

And Discovery Channel keeps throwing fuel on the fire.

  11. 11 Scott R Feb 8th, 2011 at 9:43 pm

While I do believe that family values are very important, family is who you make it, it does not have to be blood. Some relationships are toxic and should not be forced to mend. IMO I think both parties should move their seperate ways and tell the TV shows to eff off. I think continuing on the path they are on will only make a few lawyers wealthy and acomplish nothing. Sometimes I wonder how things may have turned out if the cameras were never there…..

    FAIL – LAME – OVER !!!!!
Whatever it takes to get these morons out of the news, sorry OCC…. you build ugly, crappy bikes, milked the industry dry and honestly, you have run your course.
Adios, I am sure Jersey Shore will have you!

Back to reality. Think of it. This tv show was born from the excess of the 2000/2005 boom years. No substance. Show biz at its worst. Good bye and please no complaints with all the money you stole from the true builders of the custom motorcycle industry. I will boycott Drag Specialies for sponsoring this show series. Shame on you Drag..

Come on guys, I know I bash on the OCC regime very hard but at the same time I feel for them both. This is beyond the show of television, this is real family feuds and it shows what money can do to a person. Let them fiigure out all the bullshit and let it be private, I do not feel the broadcasting of such things is deemed appropriate.

  17. 17 CHOPMONSTER66 Feb 9th, 2011 at 6:55 am

it started as a passion to do what they love , and turned out to destroy everything and anything they could including a family . is the money really worth all of that . family is all we really do have in the long run , and once they are gone thats it , you can always make more money ! hope giving up tv will help them become a family again..

I would like to know how A1 cycles knows how much money Jr. and Sr. have in the bank? And Jr. would be a regular “nobody” if Sr. had not started the bike business. Would Roland Sands be where he is if his father had not started PM? Probably not. Would Willie G be where he is if his grandfather didn’t start HD? Probably not. Would Cory and Zach Ness be where they are if it weren’t for Arlen? Probably not. Junior would be installing railings on somebody’s front porch if it weren’t for Senior. He owes everything to him. And if he really has $28 mil in the bank, he shoud get on his knees and kiss his father’s feet for it.

“Money is the Root of all Evil they say, but you’ll find they’re not giving any of it away!” Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon. Wars started and fought over money, what a concept! Love could resolve everything, if they would let it. I think Paulie Jr. has it, Sr. is not letting it take center stage. I once envied their success, but I have seen it destroy them. Sad mess is all I can say now. I’ll pray for them. Wiz

I raised two sons and when then needed guidance, I gave it to them. You lead by example and the main thing Sr taught his sons was how to be a jerk. I stopped watching a long time ago because or how he treated his sons in the early days of the show. Whatever his son(s) became, it has a lot to do with how they were raised by their father. One of the things I taught my sons was that respect is a two way street. You get it, you give it. On the show it seems disrespect was the theme.

  25. 25 bigitch Feb 9th, 2011 at 2:23 pm

there comes a time when the young stallion starts to be a attractive to the mares and fillies and soon takes over the herd.

it happens in all father /son relationships.

dad’s really hate seeing their son’s do better than them. especially without dad’s advice.

son’s hate to be lead by the hand by their fathers and resent their dads as they try to break free.

“renewed for a second season set to air this spring” – I visited OCC yesterday and the tv crew was busy filming new episodes. And I say, “good on ’em” they screen in over 160 countries, an unprecedented, amazing phenomenon and millions of kids go to sleep all over the planet with dreams of choppers dancing before their eyes. That’s what OCC has done for this industry; they’ve had a bigger positive influence on custom bike building and chopper riding than anyone who has ever gone before them or is likely to come afterward. And they are also a power for peace around the world. People love the show and in its way it counteracts some of the hate that many countries have for America. Nobel Peace Prize for Paul Sr? Stranger things have happened.

  35. 35 Grey Beard Feb 11th, 2011 at 12:04 am

    If it’s real…….. Yes…. it is sad.
But I think it’s a well plan ratings gimmick. Here’s my theory why. Sr is actually a proud man when it comes to his family, I don’t think he would let it become this media circus if it was real. The first time they had a scream and bitch session, Sr and Jr were discussed it was aired in the show, but they learned the ratings went thru the roof . Over the yrs while the screaming and bickering continued, the viewing audience took sides against Sr or Jr., the bickering back and forth was getting old. They had to come up with a new twist. What would be better then to escalate the feuding to a full blown family separation, splintering into now two shops building custom/theme bikes, reeling in the original builders.

Thought for the day: Does Sr and Jr use separate banks so they won’t bump into each other while skipping there to make a deposit ?

Boy it is hard to sit back and Read some of the Bull Shit on Cyrill’s Blog. If Cyrill ever wants to post my name and address, he has my permission! A1 Cycle you sound like a Total Moron! Who the hell told you that BULLSHIT and I believe that Jr. and Sr. don’t even know how much they have in the Bank. They surely do not have that kind of $$$$$. Where would they have made it? How much do you think History Channel pay’s in Salary’s to Jr. & Sr. ? How mant T-Shirts and Sweatshirts and Clothing do they sell. I have seen more People wear West Coast Choppers Shirts then I have OCC ! How many Bikes have they made since they have started, 5000 ? Well if they did and their Net was $5,000 per Bike, that would be $25 Million! I doubt that much or that many Bikes! Sr. Filed for protection on his $11 Million dollar Debt on his Building. Smart move, to Reduce his Debt and reduce his Payments! Bank is are NOT going to reduce his Debt, if they new that he has even, $5 million liquid, let alone $125 Million. Well I am here to tell you THEY WILL NOT! I don’t think it cost him $11 million for the Property and Building, anyway! That is another Story for another day?

  39. 39 1550tc Feb 11th, 2011 at 12:04 pm

128 mil after all is said and done is a lot of money

Bigalysts their shit was evrywhere and they had what 125 plus liencensees?? Did WCC have that many?? WCC kight have had a deeper merch line up with key retailers like Walmart/Sams Club but OCC was everywhere……….lots of truck stops gas bars in the USA with their shit on racks and counters

ok i’ll break my rule and try and count his $$$

just for fun what was their best year in merchanding sales 250mil ??? rumour of course and at what 5% or 10% so best year 12.5-25mil pre tax from merch

WHO KNOWS THE NUMBERS and look at what they spend/leased along the way like the houses cars coaches ectect

Sr probably has it all hidden in the logs of his log built house

  40. 40 A 1 CYCLES Feb 11th, 2011 at 6:09 pm

the business is worth zero its leveraged to the max all of their wealth came from merchandising and product endorsement,,that shop has never made a dollar. i persoanlly know a company that paid them 3 mil. in a one year deal for the right to use the logo on leather jackets,,,no step up cluase, no productions figures, no “if you sell 200,000 you get more..flat 3 mil up front for a year..just for logo use.and thats only one company. they are wealthy ,men and not from building bikes.and the 3 mill deal was in 2005. so yes they have lots of personal wealth all from endorsements..the tv deal isnt worth much..but it drives the endorsement deals. and for the record im really not a moron unless ive been drinking

I don’t understand why everyone worries about OCC, what they are doing & how much money they have or don’t have. As far as I can tell they’re not hurting anybody. They are doing their thing & they have actually been good for our industry. They bring an international awareness to custom motorcycles so I am grateful to them for that. I say let’s all worry about our own business & not spend valuable time worrying about OCC! They’ll be fine!

I heard a rumor they are spinning off a show about Odie building custom neon colored quads.

  46. 46 Matt Olsen Feb 12th, 2011 at 4:32 pm

I have not watched tv in three years and cant really comment on how the new show is. I am glad that they are still making tv shows. When ever i tell someone that isn’t into bikes that i fix up old motorcycles with my dad, they always ask if it is like occ. I used to explain the differences, now i just reply “kind of”

I think that the biggest benefit that will come from occ will not be seen for another 10 to 30 years. It will be the group of bike builders that start making motorcycles because of watching this show when they were little kids. We have already started to see it happen with builders that were inspired by Jesse James. I think that the negative comments on this site and others are from people that fail to look at the big picture and need to work on seeing the motorcycle sport as more than just their piece of it.

But those dudes were way to negative, really buzz killed my interest in watching them work. I did however learn a lesson from all their circus antics… be careful about working with relatives..
