The New Buell Sportbike (Part 2)

Rick Barret from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel confirms what I reported on February 9th and gives a little bit more details on the new Erik Buell street bike model expected to be available this spring.

It will be a limited edition and S&S Cycles is working with Erik to develop this motorcycle. “The first round of bikes are going to be collectibles, exotic, special-edition. ” said Buell. I want to rebuild my company, which once employed about 200 people, to produce motorcycles in bigger numbers than just collectibles or track bikes. Over time, the price can come down if we get everything in place. There are a lot of sport bikes sold in the world, and we would like some of them to be American. We would not need a very large percentage of the marketplace to be pretty big again” Buell said. Erik Buell will attend the Dealer Expo in Indianapolis where he will talk about his new venture, hoping to build very fast a new dealer network. Erik Buell.

The best of luck to Erik. He is an industry innovator and realizing the American dream for himself and his team.

Kick Ass! Instead of paying people to sit on their asses and bailing out the unsuccessful, the feds should get behind Erik with tax creits and grants to create a company with high paying jobs that will be an example of what America is capeable of.

Personally, I hope the new bikes are more true performance oriented like the 1125R . The part about S&S being involved concerns me a little.
    But irregardless,
    GO ERIC!

It is extraordinarily remarkable and commendable for Eric to launch this new venture. He probably could’ve easily and comfortably sat on the money he’s made in the past (I sure hope he did!). But instead, this true modern-day patriot decides to launch such a formidable new business adventure. Even though I’m personally not into sportbikes anymore (too old …), I do wish him much success. I absolutely agree with Bob Walker that Eric’s new company should get some breaks (if not help) from the local/state/federal government. Whether that happens or not, I hope his company will eventually be able to re-employ some of his former workers. Heck, maybe even some of the nice folks that Victory (“The New American Motorcycle”, yeah c’mon, really?) left out on the street.

Way to go Eric. It is great to have Buell back on track. I don’t know what S&S has got to do with it, but I’m looking forward to more from Buell.
Jurano, what did Victory do their employees? They are still making Vics here in the USA.
Polaris moved some of their off-road division to Mexico, but the US employees were given new jobs building the Vics.

A true entrepreneur and believes in America. A true working man, one meeting with him and I’ve never ever met such a man. Our local Harley Buell dealer was having a Buell open house. The 2 guys who were to fly out decided not too. He himself jumped on the plane when he got word about it at the last minute. He has my utter respect. Talking with this man, one will understand what a true entrepreneur he is and a conversation I will carry for the rest of my life. Respect.

Great news! I was wondering how long it would take for you to be back Eric. We’ve spoken a couple of times on your trips through Seattle. You wouldn’t know me from adam, but I won’t forget. You are a true visionairy. Good luck!

I was at the Dealer Expo in Indianappolis this weekend, and seeing Eric Buell
was the highlight of the show, and well worth the 12 hour drive.

Cyril, as soon as I can download the pictures of Erik’s new bike, I’ll send
them to you, so that you can share them with everyone here.

He’s an awesome guy, and took time to speak to everyone!!

    God Bless America!

    Go Erik Go!

Wonder if Erik Buell checked out K-Tech. They are a tier 2 small motor supplier to GM. If they are not exclusive with Motus that would be a licensed proprietary drive train for the Buell line. Curious K-Tech’s relationship with Motus. Release your product correctly, you don’t want to follow the path of Indian of Gilroy days. We released the Power-Plus way to early and then the warranty domino effect along with other problems was the cause of the meltdown.

God speed Erik-best of luck, can’t wait to see the new street model. You’ll be better off without HD in the long run-they have turned into classless corporate sellouts!
