Harley-Davidson York Vehicle Operations Will Host Open House Event in 2011

Harley-Davidson York Vehicle Operations confirmed that it will once again host its annual York Factory Open House Event in 2011 (website in construction.)  The three-day event is scheduled to be held Thursday through Saturday, September 29 through October 1, 2011.

The event, which has been held annually for 25 years, took a brief hiatus in 2010 due to the major campus restructure currently taking place at the York factory.  Since late 2009 Harley-Davidson has been engaged in a number of consolidation and restructuring activities designed to ensure its long-term success as an American manufacturer.  At the York factory that restructure includes closing and demolishing a number of buildings while combining the entire operation into one expanded building.

The company expects to have all areas of the operation combined into a single building in time for the event.  “The last year and a half has been a very transitional period for our factory, but we think this summer we will be ready to open our doors again and share our new factory with our friends and customers,” said General Manager Ed Magee.

The event will feature the traditional self-guided tours of the newly restructured factory, as well as free demos of new 2012 motorcycles, and more.  This year, Harley-Davidson is partnering with FOX43 to support the third annual “Pride and Ride.” FOX43’s Evan Forrester will be leading a charity ride on Saturday, October 1 which will start and end at the plant near the intersections of Route 30 and Interstate 83 in Springettsbury Township.  The Company and FOX43 will also offer a live musical spectacular at the factory on Saturday, October 1.  More information will be available at the event website at York Open House (website in construction) and FOX43.
