Artist Scott Jacobs Tribute To Cris Sommer Simmons Beloved 1915 Harley-Davidson

On September 10, 2010, Chris Sommer Simmons was one of the 65 bikers in Kitty Hawk, NC on the starting line of a 3325 miles grueling coast to coast vintage motorcycle ride ending 17 days later in Santa Monica. She was the only American lady to participate and to complete this cross country Cannonball Endurance Run. Internationally renown artist Scott Jacobs decided to pay tribute to Chris (and to her very supporting “Doobie Brothers” husband Pat Simmons) in creating this magnificent painting of her beloved 1915 Harley-Davidson 11J Twin 3-speed named Effie (in honor of Effie Hotchkiss who with her mother Avis rode in 1915  in a sidecar from Brooklyn, NY to the World’s Fair in San Francisco, CA! )

A small run of Giclees on canvas (115 total) of “Effie” is available at the list price of $1550, and if you go to Sturgis, Scott Jacobs, Chris & Pat Simmons will sign yours at the new Deadwood Mountain Grand Hotel & Casino Tuesday August 9, 2011 from 11 am to 2pm. Cris Sommer Simmons will also autograph her best-seller book: “The American Motorcycle Girls 1900-1950 and “Scott Jacobs will also show his new 2011 Sturgis painting named “Some Ride, Sunset”

To order your Giclee of “Effie”, call Ron Copple at Scott Jacobs Studio 303-431-4453 (photography of Cris and Pat Simmons together copyright Michael Lichter)

Ever seen a 1915 speedometer cable? It’s not a cable. It’s before “cables”, and instead is a series of tiny connected iron-forearm bones. Held by it’s end, it spreads like a puddle when dropped link-by-link into the palm of your hand.

Ever heard the opening of “listen to the music” played solo on a 12-string? Fill’s up a room pretty good. 🙂

Chris is one heck of a lady – Pat Simmons must be a lucky proud husband.

Cris and Pat Simmons are the coolist people on the planet. I love the 1915 Harley-Davidson! I live in Des Moines, Iowa and during the Iowa State Fair the Doobie Brothers dedicated a song on behalf of my Grandson Christian Boles and then Cris Simmons brought him on stage to perform live with the Doobies. If you have a Facebook account go to the profile of Mike Banks and he has a large album of photos to view. Cool stuff!

    Thanks Cris and Pat
