You can go to Nepal to enjoy Katmandu or visit and climb some of the Himalayas, but probably not to report on the custom motorcycle scene. This country bordered to the north by the People’s Republic of China, and to the south, east, and west by the Republic of India strictly prohibits any modification of any type on any motorcycle! But you will see a lot of bikes, many of them being Royal Enfields because simple to maintain and of their ability to endure and breath correctly at many different dramatic elevations. Sergey Egorov lived 2 years in Nepal, working as a chief marketing officer for one of the country telecom operators, met there his beautiful Nepali wife, had a daughter, and for the first time decided to fully customize a motorcycle. Being one of the very rare individuals daring to do it in Nepal his bike well deserves this post in my Blog.
Sergey committed a lot of felony acts. A few of them: first by attaching a custom made swing arm 5’’ longer than stock and hanging it with 13.5” gas shocks. By using a Harley Sporster gas tank. By fabbing his own strutless rear fender. By installing a solo seat (West-Eagle) moving on a mono shock. By using drag bars. By replacing the stock rear brake with a drum one. By upgrading the 350 cc engine carburetor with a 26 mm Amal MK1 concentric carburetor ordered from in England. By installing a more stylish Woodsman style exhaust system. By relocating and upgrading the crankcase breather box. By installing custom made stainless steel sump guard to protect the under engine, and many other offenses. Both 16″ wheels are dressed with Avon MK-II 130/90 tires.
After customizing this 2006 Bullet Enfield, Sergey rode it extensively, then sold it locally for US $12,000. I am happy to report that Sergey was able to leave Nepal without being arrested. Now he is in Kyrgyzstan (now a post Soviet-Union independent State near China) where he has another telecom job and of course an on-going second bike project…
Merit.
Cyril. You don’t say if Sergey found his beautiful Nepali wife because of his bike.
Seems to me the exhaust is dangerous for his right thigh!
First RE that I like.
Why do they ban bike mods?
Modern Britt-India still look “mechanical” (external OHV oil line, transmission inspection covers, etc.). At first glance, it looks like a vintage motor. Seats a tow-head comfortably.
In a “curb appeal” contest between a (500cc and lower) Honda custom cafe racer, and a R.E. street-custom – the RE has more configurations available. Small cc is the target market. Affordable – like the 45″ WL series Harley. Highly custom-able should spark new parts.
No doubt, RE is busy at the drafting tables this morning.
“Why do they ban bike mods?” To prevent accidents, they say.
Wow! Talented little tike!
This bike is being featured in everything!
rad.
Very cool R.E.

Love Royal Enfield and love this bike, good job. PS Love Kathmandu and the Himalayas as well. Full of love this morning.

That’s a good looking bike, really cool!
Wait till you see what we have cookin at Strokers with an Enfield. Stay tuned.
Love it , but that pipe looks like a cod-cooker for sure. Good build. I see they have stupid laws in India too.
