The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo And Her Bike

The films The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo are based on the novel of Stieg Larsson’s literary blockbuster The Millennium Trilogy which altogether have sold 50 million copies in 46 countries and became a worldwide phenomenon.

Eisbeth Salander (played by Rooney Mara) is a 24-year-old pierced and tattooed genius hacker with the hard-earned wisdom of someone twice her age—and a terrifying capacity to lead an investigation.

In the original release of the movie, actress Rooney Mara was riding a MX style motorcycle. In the new release,  the “Goth Detective” is riding a dark Honda CL350 Cafe Racer/Scrambler style Honda CL350. Because no big Hollywood production is going to lose time and money because of a broken down motorcycle, Los Angeles restoration shop Glory Motor Works (Justin Kell) had to build 3 identical bikes for the shooting. Now, if you want to see the influence of a movie featuring a motorcycle, watch during the next months the number of restored CL 350 roaming the streets and even appearing in bike shows. The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo. Probably the stiffest shifting bike on the planet.
Do not cross wet railroad tracks with those tires! I did – wearing my Navy “whites” in the middle of Long Beach Blvd. So mortified that I crashed, I got up and tried it again. Front wheel slipped on the wet rail running down Orange Ave. and I fell again. I had three or four rust-stripes on my whites for the effort. Hugely humiliated. Rusty fingerprints on my white cap as well.

The ‘ Original ‘ movie ( Danish version ) did not have Rooney Mara in it . That was Noomi Rapace . IMHO the originals Lisbeth ( Noomi ) and the film ( Danish version ) was much better , but the bike in the US version ( featured here ) was superior .

The US Films bike was extremely well done by the guys at Glory Motor Works , and yeah its getting copied/cloned or influencing new builds quite a bit

So what is with the trend of running mis-matched tires? A dirt bike tire on one end and a street bike tire on the other? What’s up with that? Make up your mind! Just sayin’.

A knobby/trials tire on the front? I saw the movie and she was riding with that front tire in the snowy streets.

Interesting tire combination on the scooter (why? Probably because that’s all some hippie could afford) .
The Mohawk person…. not so much.

The the original movie version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” is from a 3-part movie trilogy produced in Sweden and it stared Noomi Rapace, not Rooney Mara. Because the hit movie series was in the Swedish language and only was screened with English subtitles in art theatres here in America, Hollywood deemed it necessary to remake the first installment in English with English actors.

Both the English and Swedish are equally well produced and acted. I suggest going to Amazon.com and buying the complete 3-part Swedish version trilogy to follow the entire story staring the acclaimed Noomi Rapace. Fans and movie critics were shock to learn that Rapace, who did such a fantastic acting job in the Swedish versions, was not brought back for the Hollywood remake.
