2013 Sturgis Rally Attendance. At Mid Week, Best In Many Years.

cyril-huze-sturgis-rallySturgis Attendance Is Way Up Versus Recent Years. It was my strong feeling after only 24 hours spent in and around the Black Hills. Hotel and campground managers, vendors on Sturgis Lazelle street and at Rapid City Black Hills Harley-Davidson confirmed to me that crowds look like the ones of the rally best years.

Since January, consumer index confidence doesn’t stop to climb and bikers show again in Sturgis that when no more worry (or less) about their jobs mortgages and retirement savings, they know how to party and spend money… This morning, the Sturgis city gave the press new numbers proving, at least at mid-week, that the 2013 edition may become one of the best of the 21st century.

At 8 a.m. Tuesday, 712 temporary vendor licenses had been issued in Sturgis, compared to 676 at the same time last year. Garbage collection by the city of Sturgis from July 28 through Aug. 3 is up 19.3 percent. Brenda Vasknetz, Sturgis motorcycle rally director, said that requests for information and reservations made online are way up over last year. And for those loving all kind of statistics, one more: 47 weddings have been booked compared to 20+ for the same period last year…
