The Midual Type 1. Custom Luxury For Only 35 Owners.

Midual1The story of Oliver Midy, designer and engineer of the Midual Type 1, is the one of a child acquainted very young with motorcycles, who become obsessed with them, who at the age of 14 succeeds in accomplishing the restoration of a gorgeous Monet-Goyon and who spent all his adult life until now dreaming then creating a luxury motorcycle featuring nothing less than a proprietary engine inside a very unique all-aluminum unibody chassis.

Midual2The Midual Type 1 world premiered at the recent California Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance where it surprised both connoisseurs and the international motorcycle media community for its originality and the amount of work – we are talking about many years of research and development, of trials and errors and of testing – involved in its creation.

Midual3The first big surprise is of course the motor unique architecture, an in-house developed liquid cooled, electronic injection Flat-Twin of 1036 cc (63.2 cubic inch) pumping out 106 hp at maximum engine 8000 rpm. Compression ration 12:1, maximum torque of 74lbs/ft at 5300 rpm. The second one is is the unseen before double-wall aluminum alloy monocoque that acts as the body and fuel tank, a work of art that required more than 1000 hours of development, says Oliver Midy.

And originality doesn’t stop there. Under all angles you can look at it, the Midual Type 1 features very unique parts and details, the most visible being the dash with a very original layout of the analog gauges inspired by the 30’s to 50’s european classic cars, and all the leather details and inserts.

Midual4Production is set up in France. Reservations are now open for the Midual Type 1. 35 motorcycles are available for delivery to customers in 2016 for the European market. Each Midual will carry the name of its owner inscribed on a plaque screwed to the top of the frame. Each motorcycle will be personalised using a wide range of factory options. All other requests will be made to order. The Midual Type 1 is offered with a 4-year warranty and maintenance plan. The Midual Type 1.

I saw this in person at Pebble Beach, very nicely finished.

Very nice web site. The engine, chases, and the dash are amazing. I could find no reference to the price. I guess if you have to ask you cant afford it.

Looks a little bit weird to me.

Seems well done. But finding 35 buyers may not be an easy task.

    1) Its achingly beautiful and an absolute stunner

    2) But the price tag is ludicrous : who is this guy anyhow .. and why should anyone buy a bike from him at this price regardless of how stunning it is ?

So the real question will be ; Are there 35 extremely well heeled buyers out there willing to pony up for this rehashed and customized BMW ? And if they do … will any of the 35 actually be ridden ?

My guess is …. the answer to both will be ….. no !

Ken – re; Price – In excess of $187k from all currently available reports [ Pebble beach announcements etc ]

Introduced at Pebble Beach in with the concept car display on the putting green, a green of dreams, not the 18th fairway.

In- line engine has lots of benefits, though done before it has never been accomplished so beautifully .
Front to rear weight distribution is almost equal and it weighs 239kg with 106 ponies at the crank ?
or rear wheel. It should be great for intended and unintended wheel stands.
    Adjustable Head Angle.
Seems quite an interesting MotorCycle and very well finished.

Would like to see a riders report.

Elitist. Maybe a collectible in 50 years.

He may be able to sell 35 of them, but definitely not 40!

Although it is an interesting design, you can get ten EBR’s with real race-bred engineering (lighter weight, more horsepower, etc. etc.) for the price of one of these, and have a genuine dealer network for support and spare parts. And your EBR will no doubt handle better, be faster, and be race tested and proven, plus it will be equally exclusive and unique.

Stunning design and amazing attention to detail. It is the fulfilment of one man’s dream and he should be applauded for his ambition and certainly his persistence over the years it took to bring it to reality. This is a unique motorcycle in many respects and to refer to it as a rehashed and customized BMW is way wide of the mark.

Great concept and execution, a truly enjoyable one to admire and lust for. Not in my budget (or planet) but chump change for some and I hope those folks buy ’em and enjoy!

    RE:
“…. who is this guy anyhow .. and why should anyone buy a bike from him …”

-A- Obviously he’s the guy who created this stunning scooter.
-B- Anyone who has the resources and desire to own a very exclusive scooter can buy it.
-C- If you don’t like the product or can’t afford it…. then don’t worry about it.

    Just remember this:

“Who you are” should have nothing to do with “what you MAY do.”
However, “what you CAN do” has everything to do with “who you are.”

It’s very innovative an in-line boxer that keeps the wheel base tight.
Bet there are big manufacturers looking at this bike and wondering why they did not come up with this concept. Who ever he is he is an clever bastard. ( Kiwi Compliment )
What motorcyclist has never not thought about building his own bike from absolute scratch ?
By that I mean engine, frame, the main components………….I have but probably never will

    Smooth operator on the twists

    Very nice engineering!

““Who you are” should have nothing to do with “what you MAY do.”
However, “what you CAN do” has everything to do with “who you are.” – should be the “Thought of the Week”. Bravo, Nicker and it’s a beautiful bike, regardless of price. Later Jay

Wow! What a great project in engineering and design. I may have to ask for a raise in my allowance. 🙂

While this bike may well not be a design that is appreciated by everyone I personally can appreciate the nod to vintage planes, bikes and cars with the inset gauges. The design in general has great art deco influences with classic lines taken from trains and motorcycles and cars of that era. While it may not be for me I can appreciate the design effort and the passion that was put into this motorcycle and I greatly admire and respect anyone who follows their heart and builds what they dream of.

First Confederate, then this Thing and then the Keanu Reeves bike.
how many high end race bikes can you make
Is the “aftermarket chopper” market coming back
Anyway, the style is not for me & I can;t afford one anyway
but again, as always if you got the bucks & you like it
Go Ahead & Buy it !!! Let the market decide like it always will
