Today, September 18, 2014, Billy Lane is being released from the Orlando Transition Center and is re-opening his shop in Daytona Beach, Florida. (Please, respect his privacy, no walk-ins.) Because everything has already been said, it is not necessary to come back on the period August 14, 2009 to today during which Billy served his sentence for an accident that occurred on September 5, 2006. Donβt expect Billy to reproduce the Choppers Inc shop model of the years past and to travel the show tour any time soon. His business is intended to be a very private place where he will resume his motorcycle work without interference or solicitations.

Here’s a new logo you can use, it’s Vintage Twin’s but we’ll loan it to you for awhile:
Draw a picture of a 15-ft. wave at the Banzai Pipeline. It breaks left, which in the northern hemisphere means the wave will be faster and hollower.
Airbrush a rider on a ’57 Panhead, with a jockey-shift set-up, slotted way back in the hook. All we can see is the front clip, rider, handlebars, and fuel tanks – while leaning into the face of the wave, he’s reaching down to shift back for 4th-gear, and his left foot board is making it’s own wave trough down the face.
The wave is spitting air-and-foam and he’s headed on a trajectory to will lift him and his bike above the wave lip, where 640 lbs. of steel and rubber will be held aloft by the off-shore winds blowing up the face. Cow-wa-bunga! We’re Hydra-Gliding. π
He paid the price of his mistake. Let’s move on and talk only about his work.
A very respectful announcement by Cyril.

Under the best of circumstances, being removed from society for a year can be “recovered” in 2-years. It’s a mental-hiccup (concussion) that takes it own time re-fill.
When the pilot gets lit with a solid project then it’s fun.
Billy,
Congrats on your own shop and your move to Daytona. I always enjoy talking to you and supplying you with the stuff you need. You have a large cheering section wishing you nothing but the best. Keep up the good work and we are all behind you.
Wishing the best for Mr. Lane, looking to the future, do what you love, scrape the negative off and keep the positive close to your heart and head. Looking forward to the direction his new builds will go.
Cyril,
I was excited to see the photo you chose for this post. I shot this photo of Billy when we were working on the very first episode of Biker Build Off. It was 4th of July, 2003. Everyone was out celebrating, and watching the fireworks…and Billy and I were staying in, doing what we love. I was airbrushing Miss Behavin’ pin ups on the gas tank, and Billy was ball milling the frame. “I got an idea”! He said as he put the frame on the floor and started grinding metal away…. His idea added lots of sole to this build….And I Will always remember this night as the best fire works show I had ever seen. I look forward to many more of his ideas to be brought into this world in the bike industry and beyond. I look forward to seeing you Billy. Talk soon.
Scott

My opinion— 2 of the greatest bike builders ever are Indian Larry and Billy Lane. We lost one but kept one. Best of luck to you starting out again. Build some kick ass bikes.
HOOOOOOORAY!!!!!!!
Welcome back Billy, We missed you!
I hope you the best for your return on the custom scene !
I hope to see you soon !
Welcome back Billy.
Billy,
Was just looking up your address as I am going your way in a week and wanted to visit your shop. I wasn’t aware of the obvious past until I started googling you and understand your need for privacy. I’m more of a old school hot rodder with a very old biker past. “Centerfold Easy Riders March 1977” Have been reading your column in Ol Skool Rodz and love the roadster. Good luck in your future and follow your dreams. Tim Dube
Don’t know how I missed this back in September……..
Chuck, I agree about Billy and Larry. They have had a major influence on the sort of bike I am building in my garage. I met Billy back in 2005 at an Easy Riders show in CA and he was a real gentleman. He asked where we were from (Australia) and we talked about surfing, beaches and bikes. Of course I had a photo with him so the mates back home would believe me……LOL
I found out later that the previous year he stayed to 11PM when the show closed at 8PM signing auto graphs and doing photos with everyone who wanted them. From everyone’s account he would do the same again the year I was there and according to the people at the show he was just as nice to the last person as he was to the first.
I wish him well with his new shop.
