Incredible. Francois Gissy Rides His Rocket Bicycle To A New Land speed Record Of 207 MPH (333 KM/H)

Not a motorcycle, but you I know you will enjoy this video showing French Francois Gissy – under different camera angles – ride his hydrogen peroxide rocket bicycle to 207 mph (333 km/h). It took him 5 seconds to go from 0 to 207 mph! Concentrated liquid hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is fed from a storage tank into secondary chamber filled with a catalyst, typically silver. This causes the chemical bonds to break down and the hydrogen peroxide to decompose into heat, water (H2O) in the form of 650 degree F steam, and oxygen (O). The steam is then forced through a rocket nozzle to provide thrust. Watch the attempt.

There are so many questions eg,

What tires he is using. Ordinary (bicycle) tires will simply fly off the rim and/or disintegrate at such a speed (under centrifugal force) – likely used solid rubber or urethane tires (or some other elastomer/synthetic).

Will have to watch the TV program I guess.

That is the craziest, coolest thing I have seen in a while. Looks fun!

A Land Speed Record must be established after two runs in opposite directions. Timed with certified clocks in less than two hours. Just to say you have a record because your speedo or GPS tells you so, will not do it for me. This looks to be a one way run stunt!!!

Bicycle land speed records are carried out a bit differently from car and moto attempts.
I’ve seldom seen two way runs for this in the bicycle records.

This is a single track vehicle with an external means of propulsion that is not powered by the rider. To me, that is not a bicycle – that is a motorcycle.

Early motorcycles really were bicycle frames with engines attached. It is a jet engine – it’s a motorcycle.

Ergo, the rules that apply to land speed recording for motorcycles apply to this.

All that aside, an amazing contraption.

I want to see a picture of his hands. They had to be strapped to the bars. How else could he hang on?

Geez, if he ever farted when he hit 200 mph there would be 300 feet of flames behind him.

That thing has pedals, chain, and sprockets, it’s a moped. A bad ass moped.

Back in the 70’s I remember watching Captain Jack McClure go well over 200mph on a go kart with a hydrogen peroxide/silver catalyst rocket engine. I also remember him getting the thing to around 250mph after some serious tweaking. He was held into the cart with some industrial size strips of velcro on the back of his leather and the seat.

Must be a whole other sensation on two really skinny wheels though. The pics of him jetting away from the Ferrari remind me of the way the go kart accelerated too.
