Harley-Davidson Latin America. Did You Know?

latin1latin2Harley-Davidson Latin American is one of four divisions. The others are North America, Asia Pacific and Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The company has dealerships in 89 countries.

Archive records show Harley-Davidson motorcycles winning races in Sao Paulo, Brazil as far back as 1918, while Harley-Davidson motorcycles have been sold in Mexico for more than 80 years.

Since 2011, Latin America region headquarters are in Doral, near Miami, Florida. The operation supports subsidiary operations in Brazil and Mexico, as well as operations in many other countries through the region’s Latin America Direct Markets group.

Harley Latin America oversees operations at 55 independent Harley dealerships in Latin America and the Caribbean, managing sales, marketing, finance, dealer development and other areas.

In 2013, Harley had retail sales of 11,415 motorcycles in Latin America, up 13.1 percent from the previous year. Harley’s dealers in the region also sell parts, accessories and other popular Harley-branded gear. 25 stores at hotels and resorts in the region sell popular Harley-branded merchandise.

Brazil and Mexico are the largest Harley markets, with both Colombia and Chile showing substantial growth. In 2013, for the first time, the company took the market share lead in the 601cc and above category in Brazil.

In Latin America, motorcycles typically called motos are extremely popular, but are considerably smaller than those offered by Harley-Davidson. But because of an expanding middle class in Latin America (as in Asia), Harley’s strategy is to develop all international markets where growth potential is much higher than within its USA core market

Latin America is obviously the closest foreign market with high potential for Harley to expand. USA too old with intense competition coming from Indian, Triumph and even Royal Enfield. Watch out!
