The Bultracker Harley Sportster

Is the reason the fact that the USA is more prone to litigation with dealers scared away by the weight of liability when modifying the models they distribute? Don’t know for sure the answer (tell me what you think), but a new European Harley is entering the custom scene with this custom Sportster now available exclusively from Harley-Davidson Capital Brussels. A new venture that will benefit the image of this important Belgium dealer and that probably will stimulate the creativity of other Harley dealers of the Benelux economic region (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg)

But reality is that few have the desire and/or time to do it. So, why not rely on the dealer who made the sale. For a 1st custom offering out of the showroom, owner of Harley-Davidson Brussels Mario Van Den Broeck and manager son Kim decided to go the Sportster route and for a 1st try consulted with a friend, Spanish pro builder Ali Manen from Lord Drake Kustom (LDK). Because Mario began to ride enduro bikes at age 10 and developed a taste for the forgotten Bultaco – a model from the Spanish brand that dominated the World Trials Championship in the 1970s, winning the title eight times – briefing was to turn the new Sportster into a machine reminiscent of the Scrambler style of his youth.

To them, some very nice hand-fabricated one-off parts very well executed by LDK. As a result, a very fine machine that many would like to find when they push the door of their local H-D dealer. But this one (with many other available upgrades) distributed only by H-D Capital Brussels. “Bultracker” is the 1st custom they produced and will be joined in 2015 by other modified Harleys regrouped under the “Ring 13” lineup (the dealer is located right at the Exit  13 of the Brussels Ring) Full tech sheet below. Luvvvvly but the gas tank, much too high, destroys the bike’s balance and harmony… For such a major project, a custom ally tank should have been specified. Keep smiling nonetheless 😉

Nice job H-D Capital Brussels. The “Ring 13” logo is cool, but I think ya’ll got a lucky brake on that, “Lucky 13” if you will. It’s always been a Lucky number for me. I never had a bad day in my 54yrs, soon to be 55yrs on the 16the of this month, on a Friday the 13th. Some of the best times, and really great memories on that particular day, most every year. So I definitely like the number plate, no doubt about it, and your custom moniker is really another nice touch. Not to many around that can remember the Ole’ School Trials Bikes, let alone can say that they use to KILL’UM at the track on one. I loved the Bultaco’s back in the day. I really like look of Custom H-D Sportster. It reminds me of the Harley Davidson Dirt Bikes from days of old. Especially those old Dirt Trackers, so another reason I like the Bultracker name. I could picture the Ole’ School H-D Dirt Bikes kicking up a Roster tail in the other riders face’s. Thank God for goggles and face shields. Anyway ya’ll did an awesome job, and man what a great collaboration with your ole’ friend. Can hardly wait to see what other Custom Harleys ya’ll add your “Ring 13” line of Custom Harley Davidson Motorcycle’s. Really Sweet Look!

    Pretty good.

Looks fun. The front fender could use a rubber mud flap like the old bikes.. Like it..

    Great job Guys!

How would you pronounce the word ‘BULTRACKER’? As in “BUL” vs “BULL”.

Semantics aside – a Sportster will NEVER be a scrambler; ie a monkey dressed in silk is a monkey still.

But as a piece of ‘urban faux’ this is about as good as it gets. I mean a chrome oil tank on a scrambler – what is not to like.., ye right Dr Mitchell…

Interesting look, amazing what folks come up with!

Like. Something different with a Sportster.

Nice job by HD Capital Brussels, it does seem more European HD Dealers are doing more out of the box customs, like Shaw HD in the UK. It may be that some dealers don’t want the liability of customizing but I think the strongest reason in the US is that Harley and their district managers beat up their dealers so bad on using any aftermarket parts that a lot of dealers are afraid of loosing their allocations or get a low point score on overall performance. I can understand why Harley only wants their dealers to sell bar and shield parts but they are also sucking the profits and creativity out of their dealers. I visit over 100 dealers a year worldwide and when I visit a dealer that only sells HD Parts there is usually an independent dealer a few blocks away kicking their ass on customizing and aftermarket parts. Many times the owners of these independents were once employees of the HD Dealer and saw the opportunity to provide better service, selection and customizing. Harley needs to be a little less greedy and encourage their dealers to customize, stimulate their customers with ideas and create excitement.

Certainly a throw back to the 60’s era street scramblers.
    Great loo.
And if its got the geometry of my old Persang its going to be a fun ride.
    So, a HD street scrambler…… why not…. 🙂

My Bultaco shifted on the right (wrong) side ….

Prefer the Shaw bike, much better proportions, but this still looks good…

Bultaco is not a forgotten brand. It’s bothersome anyone would steal any part of the bike’s name, or Senior Bulto’s for use on a very impractical non-Bultaco motorcycle.

  15. 15 Zipper Mar 3rd, 2015 at 9:23 am

Great gas tank. Nice to see something different. I can’t imagine riding this bike off road and covering it with mudd. It’s much to nice. Don’t get it? “But Anyway” I live in state of confusion. ..Z

I like that anything goes with customs and this bike sure is pretty. But as a lover of the Bultaco brand, I am not a fan of the use of the beloved thumbs up on this bike. And I would definitely not choose this bike to scramble with over my real Pursang. Pretty bike, but please leave Señor Bulto out of it.

All that time and effort BUT someone forgot to lengthen the kick stand.

  18. 18 JohnnySpeed Mar 5th, 2015 at 10:57 am

I would say that definitely not “all” are interested in modifying a brand new bike. I don’t even want to own a brand new bike.lol If I won a brand new Harley, I’d just sell it and buy a pre-2000 model.

    European style dirt tracker ?
Good effort, but not quite my “cup of tea” !!!
