Daytona Bike Week. Owners Of Vintage And Classic Motorcycles Met At The “True Grit” Event.

0truegrit1truegritFor this first Sunday of Daytona Bike Week, the True Grit gathering of vintage and classic motorcycles was the event not to be missed for owners and fans of old iron.

Created by Warren Lane with the complicity and support of Bill Dodge, Billy Lane and Dan “Bacon” Carr, the event, whose format is informal by choice, attracted about 100 of the best of yesterday’s motorcycles for a day of fun and camaraderie under the Pavilion at Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona in Ormond Beach, FL

    That is very Cool indeed.
No hype, No B/S. just real people who “Live & Love…..” basic Motorcycling.
Not to mention a venue for remembering the past with great fondness.
Remembering the people who had the courage and developed the skills required to participate in this marvelous pastime.

Motorcycling was the last vestige of the rugged individuals who pioneered this country. The true ancestors of those who made this country the greatest place on earth to live.

In an age where individualism has given away to conformity, where acquisition is confused wtih achievement, and who you know trumps what you know, the need for a national reality check at this juncture is way over due.

Hopefully a hand full of such events can be kept free of the hype and bling (the “Sturgis Fever”) that seems to have crept into so much of contemporary motorcycling.

Those who don’t get the point probably never will. They’re the ones who think Radio Shack’s demise was all about bad management.

    How cool is that…..!
Hopefully this will continue as is, without falling prey to the bling of “Sturgis fever.”

We need more venues that foster the true spirit of Motorcycling. That provide a glimpses of what motorcycling one was, the domain of rugged individuals. Individuals who’s ancestors built this great and wonderful country.

One doesn’t have to re-live the past to appreciate what it accomplished. But one does have to remember those who lived it and what they accomplished in order to fully appreciate what was provided us.

Moreover, the point is to appreciate the power and influence of the individual over the “collective-think” of a contemporary global culture that panders to “conformity and sameness.” That values acquisition over accomplishment.”

Too many today won’t understand this, in the same way they don’t understand that the demise of Radio Shack wasn’t a matter of miss-management. And there in lies the “tipping point” of American culture….. how many more of such events, activities, and people can we afford to loose….????

Just read a quote that seems as if it were meant to be repeated at the “right” time. the “right” time is here! It is….”LIFE IS A LOT EASIER WHEN WE CUT OUT ALL THE NEGATIVE BULLSHIT”!

Everyone did a beautiful job of putting this show together–Carrie Repp has been rallying great builders together for years and this year, it was good to see her bring the young guns and the classics together. Excellent photos here!

What a crazy world. Known Dan for 5+ years in Socal, known Billy since our Florida State University days. Warren was the go to guy in Miami in the 90’s when no one new what was shakin….only C&L built bikes as worthy.

Great to see Billy strong and healthy.

    Small world we live in……
