METZELER celebrates 20 years of Custom V-Twin tire manufacturing with the launch of a new 26 inch front tire size added to its ME 888 MARATHON™ ULTRA line. It will be available in April in the USA.
This new front tire size has been designed specifically for baggers and custom bikes, allowing customizers to enjoy an aesthetic upgrade, paired with the great handling and performance the ME 888 MARATHON™ ULTRA line is known. Metzeler mentions an excellent feel and grip in wet and dry conditions, stability, agility, and the best mileage in its category for the entire life cycle of the tire.
Given its unique size, checking clearances will be important for customizers to ensure the tire fits on their bike. This new ME 888 MARATHON™ ULTRA 120/55R26 67H TL is designed for a 3.75 wide 26” rim but a 3.50 or 4.00 width rim is acceptable too. Metzeler reminds riders that when fitting any tire to a motorcycle to verify that there is at least ¼” clearance from the side of the tire to the forks/fender, then a minimum clearance of ½” is needed from the top of the tire to the bottom of the fender to prevent paint burn and fouling when riding.
The unique size and construction of this new tire has been created using a 55 aspect ratio, delivering a carcass shape and ply geometry to help provide the higher load index needed on heavier custom bikes. Metzeler combines these key design features to give the rider improved handling and feedback with excellent bump absorption. Metzler states that other benefits include enhanced rider comfort not seen in other low aspect ratio custom tires.
