Discovery Channel Unveils A New Series About Harley-Davidson

William-S-HarleyArthur-Davidson-SrRich Ross, the new Chief of the Discovery Channel, unveiled new programming for season 2015-2016. Among the new tv shows, a scripted series about the history of Harley-Davidson. Based on a true story, the series will tell how Milwaukee schoolyard pals William S. Harley (left) and Arthur Davidson (right) built and rode the machines, then the company. Beginning at the turn of the 20th century, at the shores of Lake Michigan, this mini-series charts the birth of Harley-Davidson during a time of great social and technological change. Full of spectacular crashes, family feuds, inspired engineering and strokes of genius, this epic story is about how two 19-year-old kids from Milwaukee started a company in their backyard that would go on to become an American legend.

Those two can’t be real bikers. No beards, tats, sleevless shirts or leather vests…I don’t even see any patches or pins! Lol, just having some fun guys.

That will be a very interesting program. I will certainly watch that.

Ever notice that no one from the Harley family works at Harley-Davidson.

Wonder what new previously undisclosed information will be reviled ?

GKGOLD90. Really? At least Bill & Karen Davidson work for H-D. Another reader who pretends to know anything about the industry.

  7. 7 BigWave916 Apr 6th, 2015 at 8:18 am

GK & Bruno, I don’t pretend to know everything, but I’m pretty sure the last of the Harley family left the company circa 1972. None were around for the buy back from AMF. GK’s statement referred to the “Harley family” Spend some time at the museum and you might run into Bill Davidson who the director, and you might catch Willie G. in the parking lot around lunch time. G man still has an office down there.

All good, round up new Riders !

In light of the Discovery Channel empire’s recent offering this will either be great …. or yet another over acted , over scripted revisionist history version of what really happened . So … I’ll give it a go … taking Agatha Christie’s stance and …

Hope for the best …. but expect the worst

BigWave916. Willie G. is one of those who bought back H-D from AMF! And Bill & Karen Davidson don’t belong to the family?!? You must be kidding. Right?

Find a copy of Herb Wagner’s “At The Creation” 1901-1909 for a true account – and see if Hollywood misses.

@Bruno – re-read BigWave’s post. He specifically mentions the Harley family

  14. 14 DOUGZ Custom Apr 6th, 2015 at 10:30 am

Never know what could be learned from this piece of history – or who may be inspired by it. Plus it can’t be any worse than all of the garbage ‘reality’ television currently on the tube. Bruno, relax, you’re not completely understanding the post by GK Gold. What he is saying is that no one from the HARLEY side of the Harley – Davidson partnership is working at the Motor Company. He fully realizes that there are DAVIDSONS working at the company.

I will enjoy… get my popcorn. Smile on me… Are you not entertained!!!

Does it matter whether any of the bloodline still takes their meals in the black and gold cafeteria?

This ain’t some mom and pop yankee doodle dandy enterprise anymore.a multinational traded on Wall Street.

I will watch the mini series intently because the vintage iron that will be on display reflects a time of greatness, of infinite horizons, but the history reflects what was, not what is. What is isn’t worth an iota of my tv watching time.

Will it be on the regular Discovery Channel or Discovery Velocity? Does anyone know?

  18. 18 GKGOLD90 Apr 7th, 2015 at 10:18 am

I’m sorry I caused some confusion… and yes I was referring to the Harley family specifically. I did speak to a docent at the museum a few years ago, and he mentioned a woman that used to work at HD that had the Harley name, and she retired a number of years ago. Just thought it was odd that the Davidson family predominately was associated with Harley-Davidson.

I will be entertained. I will take everything they say on the show as law, and then I will come back to this article and start an argument because I am always right..

Side note: I met Will G. at Rips B.A.D. Ride a few years back. Still haven’t washed my hand. Truly a great moment in my life.

Sounds like a disaster…Hollywood people shooting a story hiring actors who probably know NOTHING about the lifestyle..are they hiring real people from that world of their actors?
