S&S Variable Pressure Clutch To Upgrade Your Harley Stock Clutch Without Any Modifications

pressureplateS&S has a long history of making a lot of power, and a lot of stock clutches have been sacrificed to the “Gods Of Speed”. S&S has come up with a couple of economical ways to beef up your stock clutch so it can handle the power an S&S engine can throw at it.

This Variable Pressure Clutch gives you up to 40% more additional pressure for clutch engagement. Fits behind a stock derby cover and primary cover with NO modification required. The upgrade is a 10 minute installation…

For 1998-up Big Twins with 6 Stud Clutch Hub (Does not fit: ‘13 and later CVO™ and Tri-Glide™, ‘15 and later Ultra Limited Low and Electra Glide Classic Low Models with New H-D® Assist and Slipper Clutch: 3 Stud Clutch Hub) Only $284.95.

diaphragm560-0241bisS&S also offers a Transmission Mainshaft Bearing Race that won’t “walk” on the shaft when you pour the coal to it. The improved S&S bearing race is a must for any high performance application. Fits 2006-2007 & 2010 – up Big Twins. $51.95.

And to make your stock 1998-later Big Twin clutch a contender, install the new S&S Heavy Duty Diaphragm Spring. And if that isn’t enough, put the squeeze on your clutch pack with the S&S Variable Pressure Plate. The weighted clutch fingers use centrifugal force to increase the pressure on the plates. The faster you spin your engine, the stronger your clutch engagement, all without increasing the clutch lever pull at idle. 380 lbs pressure, 25% stronger than stock. $32.49. More info at S&S Cycle Go Fast.

Sure looks like the AIM VP series that I’ve been selling for 10+ years and H-D sells as a Screamin’ Eagle piece in this years catalog. They work great and lighten the lever effort at low RPM by pushing closer to the tips of the diaphragm spring. They make 3 different versions VP68, VP84, and VP95 for different power output levels. Just bolt on and they work. They have other killer clutch options for most late model H-Ds.

Maybe, instead of implying that S&S is stealing the designs of other manufacturers, you should consider the possibility that they are private labeling these tried and true high-performance items (with minor mechanical or cosmetic changes) from their respective manufacturers. That way, they increase the offerings in their own S&S performance parts line to complement the items they manufacture in-house without having to do all of the R&D and setup specialised manufacturing.

Maybe S&S will chime in on how they collaborated with these companies AIM & Dan Thayer on how they could improve there product & and make them Better?

S&S is not stealing anyone’s technology. AIM announced their partnership with S&S on this version of the VPC earlier this month. It benefits AIM by getting the product into wider distribution. From AIM’s facebook page:

INow S&S Cycle carries AIM Variable Pressure Clutch for their new Biggest Baddest T143 Motor.
We are proud to announce that S&S cycles carries our VP95LT. The VP95LT is the only clutch kit that can upgrade your stock clutch to handle your “Biggest Baddest Monster Motor”. This special blue version is available exclusively from S&S Cycle.

I am pretty sure Dan Thayer tried to work with S&S when he first introduced the 3 stage pump, but I don’t see anything about his involvement with the S&S version, in fact a S&S rep at Daytona made it clear that Dan Thayer did not have ANYTHING to do with the S&S tc3 pump (with quite the narcissistic attitude) seems real disrespectful to Dan, when they work with other companies like Aim
