Motorcycle Wheels. Is Royal Blue The New Black?

RenegadeNewtonWheelAlthough blue wheels have been used since a long time by many custom builders, blue production wheels were almost nowhere to be found until recently. After years of black wheels with “contrast cut” polishing, it looks like blue is the new color of the day for several wheel manufacturers.

Of course it will never be the dominant color of the custom motorcycle industry, but it’s a nice new offering now ready out of the box. Just hitting the market, the Renegade’s Newton Wheel is shown here in an intoxicating custom Royal Blue Phantom-Cut Finish.

The Phantom-Cut process consists in hand polishing after machining to highlight the wheel cut accents in contrast to the color anodizing. Rims are also available in Chrome, Phantom-Cut, Black Powder Company and Renegade’s new custom colors. Sizes available from 16” to 30”, along with matching rotors, sprockets, pulleys, derby Covers and air cleaners. MSRP starting as $1,249.00. Optional custom colors run an additional $200.00. Why do I find myself wondering why……I just don’t get it. I can see it if the bike is blue, or if the bike is a Dallas Cowboys Tribute bike or something to that effect.

But as a viable option for the average aftermarket wheel purchase….I’m lost on this one.

Steve. To help you. Blue wheels will work with paint jobs in black, many blues, many greys, all silvers and metallic silvers, or polished aluminum bodywork. It’s already many bikes.

    Paul,

I hear what you are saying, but I can’t see it, to each his own

Its just another color to add to your pallet gentleman…better than black..again…and better than chrome or polished or whatever…im guessing this is just the beginning of more colors for the wheel guys..lets them repop older patterns with any huge R&D costs..just add some color and it looks like a whole new wheel…pretty clever actually..more sales without a lot of additional costs…

Like on my ’08 Buell 1125R, powder coated blue frame and matching blue wheels over black bodywork. I’ve always thought that they did this to go with the standard outfit of most bikers, blue jeans and a black t-shirt, rather than the color of a bruise.

Again, Erick Buell was ahead of his time
