The actor, 51, got a passion for World War II memorabilia since starring in the 2 blockbuster movies “Fury” and “Inglorious Basterds. And since he’s got a love for motorcycles, he bought a 1942 sidecar for £250,000 ($385,000) used by a German reconnaissance unit in Crete.
The German Nazis left Crete in 1945 and the 3-wheeler was sold at auction to a local Greek collector. It is fully restored with only original parts and of course stripped of its Nazi decals. About 500 around the world would still be in existence. And which brand is it? I am not sure but experts say a Zündapp KS750.
Rich guy investment.
I believe a similar Nazi side hack rig was on display at the Quail Motorcycle Gathering in Carmel Valley, CA last May.
Nice, got any more pics?
Zundapps are incredible motorcycles, if Ural made an equivalent I’d be all over it. Definitely needs to have the original paint restored pronto–and entered into war games. History is too important to forget!
385, 000 and no original Nazi decals ? WTF kinda nonsense is that…….
Brad Pitt ought to know better than to glorify anything Nazi.
Could have just brought a ‘Urinal’ outfit and saved some dosh….as we call the Cossack Ural outfits in Blighty…
I wouldn’t call it glorifying the Nazis. Politics aside, the German manufacturers made some nice equipment, ala Messerschmitt and Focke-Wulf planes; Panzer, Tiger and Panther tanks.
More $$$ than he knows what to do with
So sad, in this “Politically Correct” society today, the restorer didn’t keep the original Nazi Swastickia on the sidecar.
History is being “rewritten” in so many ways today, from schools requiring the deleting of the word “nigger” in classic book’s like Mark Twian’s Huckleberry Finn, to changing science books talking Evolution. To the fact Christopher Columbus didn’t discover the Americas and befriend the Indians. but that he tortured, enslave and killed the native indians he met.
The only way to learn from and respect history, is to leave it intact. Or it will repeat itself.
It’s inaccurate to call any motorcycle ‘Nazi’, that’s just being inflammatory; Brad Pitt bought a Zundapp military motorcycle. The Nazis were a political party within Germany, which ultimately took total power through a coup, ending democratic gov’t in Germany. Millions of Germans, even those who fought for their country in WW2, were not members of the Nazi party, they just happened to be born in Germany. Many assassination attempts were made against Hitler, even by his most famous General, Rommel, who was forced to commit suicide for his failed attempt.
This Zundapp KS750, and the BMW R75 motorcycles were not Nazis, they were motorcycles designed to fulfill contracts for the German military. Some were ridden by Nazis, most were ridden by ordinary soldiers.
I’m hardly a defender of racist and murderous ideologies, but this article seems purposely branded to attach the Nazi label to Brad Pitt, which is ridiculous. He’s adopted children of all colors, from around the world, fer chrissakes…
If there are 500 in existence, then this seems like he paid too much. There are many rare motorcycles from the 30’s or 40’s where only 20 exist or less. I had a ’39 DKW SB500 that only a handful existed and in very mint shape,,, $20K. The interesting part though is Brad Pitt is like the Steve McQueen of his generation, the cool guy, married the hot chick, is in the limelight all the time, and what does he love for his hobby,,, Motorcycles. His bikes will be the $2million sales at Bonhams in the 2050’s.
