The Brook. A New Brand Of 125-250 cc Rigid Custom Motorcycles To Get Started With Motorcycling

1Group+Bikes_0030Starting motorcycling with a big, heavy motorcycle can be extremely intimidating, probably even discouraging many. Not only youngsters, women, but also some adults… Launching a small cc’s motorcycles brand with a full custom appearance at a very reasonable price may be a great idea for all those not yet ready to order and ride one of the big Harley, Victory and Indian offerings.

1BRooks2BRooksA Swiss/German team just launched The Brook, an entry level brand offering “out of the box” custom factory bikes inspired by the current custom motorcycling scene. After 3 years of development searching for component suppliers and nailing down the production logistics, the final product is a quite appealing ride introduced October 17 to potential dealers who had the chance not only to see but also ride the Brook motorcycle around Lake Garda in Italy.

3BRooks4BRooksIt must be noted that among the 4 partners, Michael “Brandy” Brandner and Radja Stritzko both from Mayhem-Kustomz are established European customizers with decades of experience in building full blown radical custom motorcycles. For marketing and production reasons, with partners Thomas Mergler and Oliver Arnold, it was decided that 2 models should be offered. One 125 cc for the 16+ market of younger riders and one 250 cc for the most adult/mature rider. Of course, it allows for the use of the same basic frame/bodywork platform, simplifying production and cost. The chosen motor is the popular among motorcycle manufacturers single-cylinder OHC 2-valve motor of Japanese heritage, but now offered as the powerplant of much more glamouros custom motorcycle.

9BRooksThe Brook got the main features of a custom bike. A low riding position, a peanut tank, an old school attitude with a solo seat, short fenders, side mount number plates and mini indicators that also work as tail and brake lights as homologated with Harley-Davidson’s for the ”Nightster” Every “mandatory” component is there, yet almost invisible and not distracting from the overall bike look. Cool details like an anodized CNC machined triple-tree and matching forward controls, a kick start pedal, belong to those seen at the custom bike shows. Without pretending to play the Big Twins, the 12 hp 125 cc and the 16,3 hp 250 cc models are both great for old school riding in cities or country side. Options include a 70’s chopper style duo seat and carry bags. “At the launch, we have received a very positive response both in terms of of styling and performance. Test ride proved to the dealers that we mean business, that we exist for the long term”and intend to move on with new models to help dealers attract a new clientele” said Michael Brandner.     Killer idea especially the rigid frame. Keeps cost down and it will allow new riders to actually feel the bike before they move up.

    Great idea so learners don’t have to learn on Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, they have other options.

    At least folks learning on learn on Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, etc didn’t have to settle for 12~16.3 HP and outgrow the bike 20 minutes after learning to ride it. The bikes look really nice, and the market will determine what niche(s) they may fill. Personally I can’t imagine all that for a 250cc bike, but I’m not paying European gas prices, either.

    Yeah, that Honda ’76 CB 750 Super Sport I learned on really spoiled me. Too bad I didn’t learn to ride on a real bike. I mean, I had to really watch myself, what with the power, the acceleration, handling, braking…

    On second look, I can’t believe that the United States has thumb-twidled all these years, and let a Swiss/German team lay claim to the “rigid frame”.
    It’s been so long since a rigid frame factory model has been made, that the Gen-Z thinks it’s a new invention that only surfaced in 2015.
    Gen-Z doesn’t know who Jim Morrison is/was and they do not care.

    Certainly very cute…..

    As a goal it would make a great project for a shop student or a garage hobbyist.

    But an ” entry level” bike, in the Custom context, starts as an idea, a pile of parts, a tool box, and the desire to create.

    Yes, building your own motorcycle “can be extremely intimidating.” If it wasn’t then there would be no challenge, no point, no accomplishment upon which to build future efforts.

    And no uniqueness, no customization, no adventure.
    In short no “exclusivity.”

    Great starter bike! Are there some things I would change? Yep. All part of the fun.

    At the right starting price; this would be a winner in America too. They would hold their value and could be sold without much loss in investment. If one of the American bike companies did this they would get some brand loyalty started as well. They could even offer a buy back program in one year at 3/4 of the original price or something..

    Engine, Japanese heritage………..clever words for a cloned copy made cheaper in China. But then again H-D has been using clever words for decades and still fools most fools, T-parts (Taiwan), American Company, assembled in the USA, etc.

    Chop you got it! Taiwan is the Upgrade, way way better than Chinese Crapola. Taiwan makes all the cool and well engineered Bicycle Parts. I will bet the Suppliers are bicycle manufacturers, who have set up their Tooling for these HEAVIER DUTY BICYCLES with 10 to 20 HP on them. Still someone had to put the whole Deal together so Go German/Swiss.!

    This is the 3rd go around in the last 6 years for Radja Stritzko. In 2009 he bankrupted his company Mayhems-Kustoms of Bern Switzerland, “Berning” investors and creditors. Then in 2013 he dissolved his newly formed company, Choppers Crown GmbH, also of Bern Switzerland, defrauding investors. Now he has taken the Kikker5150 Hardknock bike of the USA and made a direct copy. These are indisputable facts. Look them up in the Swiss business records.

    As most of us know, there are several ways to reach or declare bankruptcy, as I have witnessed and felt myself (by magazines and book publishers declaring “it” before payments…). Either you a) scoop away the “motherload” and are not to be seen (or found) again OR b) you go bankrupt because some of your clients don’t pay what they ordered and leave you in debt… and in deep sh…

    Which is usually results in having less money and even more work to compensate to pay off the debts that others caused. Looking at Radja’s history – it seems that he had to work for his money and did not venture-off to enjoy the rest of his life in Zermatt or Davos/Switzerland, but tried and tried again. Which is to be kind of respected.

    Not to forget that the “Brook” brand is a joint venture of 4 partners, for which Radja is one of the two designing and working men on the machines that are already homologated for most European Countries –which has been one of the expensive tasks.

    It was also enlightening to look into the history of the critics and competitors, who are surprisingly bold to step out in such a manner, considering what can be read about their products and some (internet-reported, never forget!) conducts in business throughout the WWW. Bankruptcys always leave “disgruntled” people who have lost money and faith, but those in the scene who “carry on” and work to erase their debts deserve at least some respect. So do those who give somebody who went through a bankruptcy a “fighting chance” to work.
