Victory Motorcycles Reveals “Combustion” By Zach Ness. A Concept Victory With Newest Production Engine.

0Combustion-is-revealed-(Large)2Zach-Ness-with-CombustionYou already know that Victory Motorcycles wants to position its brand as the “Modern American Muscle Brand”. For this objective, Victory already unveiled last month in Milan at the EICMA Show a concept bike called “Ignition” by Urs Erbacher of Switzerland propelled by a production-intent engine that will power a new model Victory Motorcycle to be revealed in 2016. The Engine is a 1200cc liquid cooled 60 degree V-Twin design with four valves per cylinder that will deliver the kind of engine performance enthusiast riders find exhilarating. The final installment of Victory’s 1200cc concept series was unveiled at the Unions Garage in Brooklyn, NY just prior to its public showing at the International Motorcycle Show in New York City. The new concept bike build by Zach Ness and called “Combustion” is powered by the production version of the engine.

1Cory-Ness,-Zach-Ness,-Max-Ness“This new engine platform offers the most versatility in American Motorcycling.” says Motorcycle Product Director Gary Gray.  “Both concepts, Ignition and Combustion, are intended to show what this motor is capable of in very distinct, visual forms.  While the bikes are very different, the powertrain is capable of delivering the performance required of the look in both cases.”

3Zach-Ness-with-Combustion“Our family has a long-standing relationship with Victory Motorcycles customizing many Victory production bikes in the past,” says Zach Ness, third generation custom builder and grandson of the “Godfather of Customs,” Arlen Ness. “It’s always fun to look into the future – so to have the trust of Victory to create a more conceptual bike has been great.  Also, as one of the first to ride this new engine it absolutely RIPS!”

5Urs-Erbacher-with-Ignition“Victory Motorcycles have taken a strong positioning as the Modern American Muscle brand,” says Steve Menneto, President of the Polaris Motorcycles Division. “We are excited about our path for this brand.  Our latest work will complement the existing line-up of motorcycles powered by the award-winning Freedom 106 design.” For more information visit Victory Motorcycles Combustion Concept Bike,

Nice. I guess the objective is to differentiate Indian & Victory. Indian = heritage. Victory = performance.

I don’t think Urs Erbacher & Zach Ness concept bikes are very different. At least they could have chosen a different color paint scheme.

I like the wheels, brakes, and forks better on the Erbacher bike. Looking forward to taking this motor for a test spin.

I like them both, and see many more ways to customize this platform. What time in 2016, since I’m in the market for a new bike.

Bob Athey. I guess you can bet for a release at Daytona Bike Week in March.

    looks like a customized Scout…

I bet we start seeing this engine in new Victory touring bikes and baggers within 2 years. Maybe a bagger by August 2016 in Sturgis.

This is a modified version of the Scout engine but different enough to not be considered a clone. Anyone who has ridden the Scout knows it’s a rocket for a cruiser. Not sure it’s in the VMax class but definitely quick.

Since Victory riders and those looking to buy one are not as nostalgic as Harley riders; I think this new platform will do quite well. Might even give Victory the kick start it needs after the Indian’s success. Might even get some new riders to embrace an American made bike instead of the Asian made. Time will tell.

I don’t see how this is the “future” of anything. It’s a rebadged Scout. It’s not a bad looking bike, but it reminds of when GM used to sell the same car under different brands (Saturn Sky / Pontiac Solstice ) and nobody bought either one.

Better give this bike double discs up front. If it has 20 more hp than the scout and a bucket more torque, it will need adequate whoa to match the go. If it’s priced right it will be a winner.

Looks like a Scout??? You guys are nuts, this bike (especially the Ness concept) actually looks GOOD – unlike the Scout.
I sense a little bit of the NorCal Dyna/FXR scene in Zach’s styling here and I dig it! Nicely done and can’t wait to test ride one of these bikes!!

First Victory motorcycle that I’d want to own. Very nice

  12. 12 Chuck U. Farley Dec 11th, 2015 at 3:14 pm

    Has a Scout engine…

    Looks like a Scout…

So Victory is becoming Indian’s Buell?

    That’ll work…

    great looking good job

  14. 14 Blackmax Dec 11th, 2015 at 4:51 pm

Both concept bikes are worthwhile efforts, both well executed.
Goes to show what you can do with the bike when it hits full production
Still think it looks too much like the Scouts, but I’d ride one !!!
(Mr. R.P. are you seeing this, LOL !!!!)

Unlike Harley and Buell it looks like Polaris is actually investing in Victory via engineering $$ and marketing. Don’t forget Chuck, HD spent more on clo$ing down Buell than they did on supporting the company.

It is obvious these guys are playing with pre-production pieces as the hard points are all the same. Should be interesting to see what the real product will look like. Many will be dissapointed if it is not close to the Pikes Peak bike, it won’t. My wild @ss guess is if this platform moves units a more sport oriented bike will follow.

    I’ll keep my Jackpot thanks

  17. 17 Roberto Dec 11th, 2015 at 10:47 pm

Make it bigger than the scout.the scout is bulit for the average height guy. Make this for us 6′ and taller……..

Being from NorCal, of course my vote is for Ness … Good job Zach … must be in the genes…

I’ll keep my Hammer S and when I want to really cut it up I break out my Confederate Hellcat.

The Combustion and the Ignition both look good. But maybe a little too much like the Judge as to the basic lines.

I will be the first in line if it is a replica of the Pikes Peak bike. But I know that’s not going to happen.

And for those of you who say it looks like the Scout. maybe the Scout looks like the Victory and it was just released first. It Shocked most people when the Scout was released because all the gossip at the time was that Victory had a new water cooled V-twin ready to hit the bricks just a thought Since they are built under the same roof.

INDIAN SCOUT with a different tank badge

  21. 21 BobS Dec 13th, 2015 at 12:46 pm

Clearly the Scout and this new Victory began life on the same sketch pad, but I don’t see a rebadged Scout here, especially not yet. Let’s see, and even better ride, the production version and then decide. I suspect most but not all customers will see enough model seperation to make one more desireable to them. A Scout with more modern styling and a more powerful engine…yes please! Don’t care what badge is on the tank but prefer Victory.

  23. 23 Steal Your Face Dec 14th, 2015 at 11:15 am

I prefer the “Ignition” by Urs personally, but think that Ness made an excellent effort.

  24. 24 Jim Watson Dec 14th, 2015 at 1:06 pm

Nice machines, strong work by all the builders!

  25. 25 pop Dec 17th, 2015 at 6:30 am

So take an Indian engineered powertrain and massage it and then put V all over it and that indicates the “rebirth” of Victory. Really?

This is what passes for reinvigorating the Victory brand? You folks actually accept that as a sincere show of support for the Victory product line.

I guess people who own Mercurys thought the same about Fords engineering. Oops.
