Not much I can tell you until the official launch Friday March 3rd when it it will be featured here. Of course, if you are a little bit curious you can look at the files of CARB (California Air Resources Board) where you can see a model named Indian Springfield listed as using – as all the other Indian models except the Scout – the now very reputable and reliable Thunder Stroke 111. The new model will be launched with the tag line “The open road deserves a bike to honor it.” You have a little bit more than one week to guess…

Hoping for a new chassis the like a Dyna. If it’s based on the current chassis then it’s just another trim-package.
I guess a tourer.
I know tourers are big market, but too many tourer models and the historic brand image is going to be hurt.
A roadster with open fenders?
is this really needed? are the motorcycle companies really selling every bike they produce.
or are the many new and old companies just saturating the market and going to cause a major down turn in the industry
inline 4
More is better, and tooling is expensive, so I don’t blame them for getting that engine into as many different models as possible. It certainly was a winning strategy for Harley at one point.
Please not another Octane……a smaller footprint Indian with the 111 would be cool.
I agree with Lonny. Inline 4 is the way to go. Just don’t call it a “Thunder Stroke” because that sounds like something Thor would do in the shower before bed.
If it were a “ALL new” model I would think they would wait till fall to announce it. Am looking forward to seeing what it is though.
Not a 4! Re-read the article
I would hope it might be a lighter bike than the Chief with a pumped up Thunderstroke motor to compete directly with the FXST and the Dyna, which could be exciting.
If it is a repeat of the Polaris bike (a 1200 Scout) revealed last week, pretty boring. I hope for exciting.
More is better, engine tooling is too expensive to waste and if you have unused production capacity it makes even more sense. Not like there isn’t already a successful business model in the industry for multiple platforms on a pretty much common theme, right? 😉
The consumer will decide how many bikes each mfr. needs to make, just as they do in the auto industry.
Pretty sure it will be as exciting as an overhyped new paint color!
I’m guessing another chief with a different paint colour and handlebars
Necron – Obviously it’s not a 4, but some of us would like to keep dreaming that Indian might release something remotely cool.lol
Sorry for the double post above, my original wasn’t showing an hour later so I tried again. Time warp ☺
It’s got to be better than Harleys matt black rattle can ‘new’ models.
A Chief with ape hangers. Maybe some matte grey paint too.
The idiots are strong in this group….
it’s got a TS111… it’s got hard bags .. it’s got a windshield … reduced rake…. You know, a Roadking killer.
Let the HD / Indian war resume!
Very true Rick…
When I think of Springfield Indian, I envision a Chief with a springer front, similar to the custom one shown at the IMS motorcycle shows a year ago, but geared for production like HD had a while back. Perhaps even a sprung seat which is popular lately.
Rick,
Where did you hear hard bags, windshield, and reduced rake?
As Rick Said : a Chieftain with the front of the Chief Vintage… = A Vintage with ha
A vintage with hard bags and the possibility (in option) to put the Roadmaster trunk…
A nice trike would be fine with me, my Wife loves them!
LOl, prepare to be disappointed. Another iteration of the chief with the 111 motor. Putting lipstick on a pig.
Its like having 5 victory models using the same frame and different rakes and then call it a new model. WOOP DEE FREAKING DOO!!!
It will be a new model… in the Chief family… 😉
Why bag out using the 111. Harley has been getting away with the same base Twin Cam engine for 17 years now, even longer than the 16 years of Evo’s. About time that they think outside the square too.
Hey! We might be seeing next year’s new Victory!
mkviz, HD has been getting away with that same strategy for years.
Kudos to Indian for shaking things up a bit. It’s one of the reasons HD sales were down last year.
500cc Jr. Scout / Scout Jr.
or super low model, Girl Scout / Ladyboy Scout
BOLD new graphics!
Rick is right
Don’t know about the take
But handbags on the Chief is what’s coming
Chief with hard bags was my first guess, glad to see others are thinking the same. Polaris dropped the classic style bikes from the Victory lineup once they got a hold of Indian and started to have a plan in place. Crossroads, boardwalk, studded leather and full fenders all gone so they could make a more modern image for that brand while leaving room for bikes of that style exclusive to Indian. They did a pretty good job of using the basic Scout platform to do the Octane, but the rest of the lineup won’t be having any overlap.
If you have not caught on yet, Polaris plans to go toe to toe, model to model against HD.
The Springfield will be their version of the Road King.
Agree with most of the other posters
indian is planing on going “head to head” with H-D
This will be a Chief model with hard bags to go up against the Road King
Nothing too “out of the box” but different with the rake & trail on the Chief
vs the Chieftain/Roadmaster …
I’m more interested to see a something different from Victory
Liquid cooled performance Cross bike?
Anyone ???
