SlingshotX. An Epic Demonstration Of Polaris Slingshot’s Driving Capability

The Slingshot® is a three-wheeled motorcycle. It is not an automobile, it does not have airbags, and it does not meet automotive safety standards. This film, featuring 3-time U.S. rally cross champion and four-time X-Games gold medalist Tanner Foust, is an epic demonstration of Polaris Slingshot’s driving capability. Fasten your seat belt.

    I want one.

I agree with BobS. I put this into the toy category and I want one to play with.

Having lived in San Diego; it was easy to spot certain sites and roads he was ripping around on. Probably filmed this between 3 and 5 AM to not impede the crazy amount of traffic these days.

“The Slingshot® is a three-wheeled motorcycle. It is not an automobile…”
Which is why Polaris put a car driver in is, not a motorcycle racer.

Folks, the Slingshot is NOT a motorcycle!
No matter how hard a lot of people try to claim that it is, it is not!
It’s a fun vehicle to drive but deserves its own category!
The only reason it’s called a motorcycle is so they can avoid certain federal and state laws!

  5. 5 BobS Mar 19th, 2016 at 1:03 pm

Boots, it’s called a motorcycle because that’s what the government classifies it as. It’s not popular opinion of what individuals think a motorcycle SHOULD be, it is simply this: two wheels = bicycle, three wheels = tricycle. Add a motor to a bi or tri cycle and it becomes a motorcycle. There’s really no need for alarm, Slingshot owners aren’t dressing up like pirates and playing biker on the weekends. The “biker lifestyle” remains left to those with really loud, slow, and low mileage Harley’s.

Wonder what the camera vehicle was mama it certainly had no problems keeping up with him.

The Brits have been enjoying these cottage industry type vehicles for ages, Polaris had to go to THREE wheels so we could have some of the under- regulated fun. Kudos to Polaris for making such a mass produced, not crazy $$ toy. And that Foust can really drive.

  8. 8 Iron Horse Mar 19th, 2016 at 6:09 pm

That looks like a whole lot of fun, even if it’s on three wheels!

Folks need to lighten up a little on the whole motorcycle, trike, car thing. If it’s fun and exciting, who cares?

Another example of something that’s out there, but we could live without..

Now this is where Polaris’ tendency toward angular, futuristic styling really comes into it’s own. This thing is undeniably awesome. I’d definitely own one if I could possibly justify another toy to my wife.lol

Being in San Diego they should have included clips out in the mountains too. I guess that’s harder to close off tho.

“The Slingshot® is a three-wheeled motorcycle. It is not an automobile”…. SORRY this is NOT a motorcycle…It’s a CAR! Airbags, seatbelts ,side by side seats, steering wheel, gas pedal, roll bars. It is not a motorcycle!

  13. 13 Blitz Mar 20th, 2016 at 4:49 pm

Sorry guys. Cyril is right in the sense that it is legally sold as a motorcycle, not a car.

Car, bike or whatever you want to call it. I call it a f@#$%ing blast!! 400 HP into a single drive wheel?? The ability to drift for miles. Acceleration of an F-15. I think all that is missing is………….
    me.

Hey Guys, The Slingshot has a 2.4 GM Echo-tec , 173 HP motor, a steering wheel, & you MUST wear a Motorcycle Helmut! I don’t know what it is, BUT, I want one! Spring is Here, well not here outside of Boston, Noreaster last night, Be Safe, Boston Jim, FATZUSAdotcom

PS, the Slingshot in the video was modified, had a 400 HP motor!!!

I can think of many things more fun to spend money on than a tweener. Kudos for trying something new, but if your motorcycle life is getting boring, try twisting the throttle more…

  17. 17 Blackmax Mar 21st, 2016 at 4:50 pm

    Relax,guys !!!
it IS a CAR, classified as a motorcycle
because of all of the confusing laws governing 3 wheeled vehicles
I’ve test driven one & it was fun !!!
But not as much fun as this guy was having
Can you say “California Drift” ????
I’d have one except not enough discretionary income …
Saving up for an Indian Roadmaster
(which costs a lot more than the normal Slingshot)

If it had a Harley Davidson logo on it some naysayers would have such a big boner they wouldn’t have enough blood in their big head to think correctly. Then again !

    RE:
“…why Polaris put a car driver in is, not a motorcycle racer….”

    Spot on…

Certainly, a good driver can drive the hell out of this toy…..
BUT… a “motorcycle racer can’t Ride it”… no mater how hard he tries.

And that my friends is the difference, no matter how hard you rationalize it.
(let’s not bastardize motorcycling because its convenient for business)

“legally sold as a motorcycle” True, and Obama was sold as color-blind President who’d unite the country and run a transparent administration. Waddle + quack = X (solve for x ☺ )
