Must be because of the geographic features of Russia, going from tundra to coniferous forest to grassland, to semi-desert and because of poor roads or a lack of road that Russians have a passion for unusual heavy-duty vehicles. Of course there is the well known Ural sidecar and now this Tarus 2×2 for work and off-road unrefined fun.
