Australia’s custom Royal Enfield bike builder, Carberry Motorcycles opened shop in India earlier this year and has now officially released details on its first made-in-India 1000 cc V-Twin Royal Enfield engine.
It is basically two Royal Enfield engines fused into one. Started by Paul Carberry, the first India-made Carberry 1000 cc V-Twin cruiser will be revealed later this year. The engine will be separately sold to custom builders and for exports
The motor is now ready for sale and includes the primary drive and the transmission. There’s a seven-plate clutch with strengthened primary chain, 5-speed transmission, hydraulic lifters and a heavy crankshaft. Carberry has added a heavy-duty starter motor and the clutch designed is that for a 2-liter car engine.
Carberry further reveals that the oil capacity stands at 3.7 liters, whereas the lifters and oil pump run in their own housings, protecting the engine cases from wear and tear. The custom builder says that the motor will provide linear power delivery throughout the rev range and the old school design is appropriate for custom builds. The exhaust system is not a part of the engine setup as it is frame dependent.
Wish I had had the money.
Carberry builds some beautiful bikes and this engine in a Harris frame could be a gem.
This could be a build with plenty of parts by Hitchcock’s.

Aniket Vardhan has also been selling his “Musket” V-Twin based on the Royal Enfield bullet.
Almost looks like the result of breeding between an XR750 & Vincent. Nothing better looking than a well designed V-twin.

Who knows if this was borrowed from the Musket but there have been other people that have made an Enfield V-Twin. The Musket is a cooler looking engine but uses the same primary cover and I don’t think it keeps it’s electric start. This one looks nice and has an electric start. The royal enfields have been known to have electric start problems which I don’t think have been totally resolved. The sprag clutch is the weak link so most people kick start them anyways. This one uses a different starter and perhaps a more robust sprag clutch.
The Musket and Carberry were developed separately
Aniket based his on the older iron barrel design, while Carnberrys engine uses newer UCE engine parts. many Enfield owners buy a kit to be rid of the electric starter because the bought the bike for the simplicity of a 1955 design. My iron barrel starts with a few kicks cold, one hot.
It will be nice to see a V-Twin in something beside a cruiser frame.

Not trying to take anything away from Carberry, the engines are different, just thought some of you might be interested in watching it.
A great effort i am sure, but Aniket’s Musket is SO much more beautiful and runs so sweetly. A combination of one man’s passion and phenomenal skills. There is just no comparison. A Vincent twin vs. a modern twin. The modern engine does many things very well but the Vincent will make a grown man drool, as does the Vardham’s Musket.

this is the first i heard that the RE starters were crappy. i was considering buying one up until now.
I believe Carberry offered a v twin many years ago for an outlandish price.
Carberry is now in India, much lower costs than Oz.
