Vietnam veteran, Character Actor And Spokesperson Of Victory Motorcycles R. Lee “Gunny” Ermey Has Died. R. Lee Ermey, a former Marine who made a career in Hollywood playing hard-nosed military men like Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in Stanley Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket”, and known by bikers for doing promotion work for Victory Motorcycles,, has died.from pneumonia-related complications. He was 74.

German Biker Sets Record For Longest Distance Traveled On an Electric Bike In 24 Hours. Remo Klawitter rode a 2018 Zero DSR ZF14.4 to ride 691.8 miles (1113.4 km) in just 24 hours on public German roads, about the distance from Washington DC to Chicago. Klawitter was cruising at freeway speeds in about 90 mile long steps rides. In 24 hours, 9.5 hours were spent charging up the batteries while Klawitter was eating and sleeping.

Very sad to hear Gunny, he was the same off-camera as he was in front of it, with a twinkle in his eye and a great sense of humor. I had the pleasure of having lunch him and 3 other “retired” Marines when I worked for Bombardier (Johnson/Evinrude outboard division) around 2001. The group was doing a fund raising/publicity event to raise awareness and consideration for hiring older vets. They were doing a trip down the Mississippi River from MN or WI (can’t remember) all the way down to the Gulf. Bombardier was supplying Zodiak boats & outboards as sponsorship. They set up a luncheon at Evinrude/Johnson hdq/factory as a PR op and had it in the conference room for about 20 people-the group of four Marines, around a half dozen front office execs from Bombardier, and held a lottery for the mfr. group to include one person from each group, i.e. machining, maintenance, assembly, etc. to round out the group. I was the lucky winner fromautomation maintenance. With tables in a circle, we had an hour for an informal lunch of swapping jokes, asking questions, and generally eating with our hands and talking with our mouths full.
