In any season, in any environment, at any elevation – new Harley-Davidson Heated One-Touch Programmable gear offers the motorcycle rider fingertip control of customizable comfort. Neck-to-toe warmth is provided by pre-programed heat settings selected with a wireless control worn on the wrist. It’s the most convenient and sophisticated heated gear ever offered by Harley-Davidson. It is available in four liner options: jacket, pants, glove and socks, that can be worn together yet controlled independently.
A new Men’s Heated One-Touch Programmable Plug-In 12V Jacket Liner (P/N 98346-15VM, $425.00 size XS to 3XL) is the foundation of the system. This packable liner is powered by the motorcycle charging system, and has seven large heating panels (two chest, two back, two sleeve, and one collar) with infrared technology that generates immediate heat to penetrate the body for deep warmth. A wireless controller included with the jacket is worn on the wrist over a jacket sleeve and used to control heat settings with just a finger tap. The wrist controller pairs with a receiver within the jacket and enables temperature adjustment to one of five customizable heat levels the rider can pre-program. This liner can be worn as a casual jacket and is trim enough to wear as a bulk-free mid-layer. Stretch expansion panels on the sides, sleeves, and back shoulders enhance range of motion and reduce bulk. The jacket comes with a charger cable for the wrist controller, the garment receiver inside the jacket, and a complete motorcycle battery connecting harness. Until this Daytona Bike Week, I knew nothing about motorcycle pull behind trailers. Then last week I was “forced” to listen to the arguments of a company called Bushtec about trailer safety. Yes, in addition to style and quality, safety is paramount when pulling these little boxes. Bushtec explained to me that their motorcycle trailers are no bounce, no push-pull features and with a 360-degree swivel joint you won’t even feel it’s back there (just remember it’s there…)
Bushtec offers quality motorcycle hitches for hundreds of American and Import motorcycles, and loads of parts and accessories to let you customize your trailer.
And I also learned that there is a touring motorcycle camping trend…Well, if you are into it, you’ve got an address. Bushtec and Bunk House Camper.
Indian Motorcycle’s first ever global “Custom Scout Dealer Contest” was a superb opportunity for 36 official dealers around the world to show their passion for the brand they represent, and to demonstrate to their clients the design and fabrication skills of their respective teams. In Bordeaux, France, world’s major wine industry capital, V-Twin Garage is both a Harley specialist, one of the 1st Polaris dealers in the country (Victory & Indian) and the epicenter of a very active custom scene that V-Twin Garage’s owner Dominique Mariaulle feeds with the production of very cool customs.
This only 4-week labor Indian Scout project may have been a little bit more special for Dominique than for the other dealers belonging to the competition. The reason? I know no other European than him in the industry who has more passion and knowledge of the USA and of course of its motorcycle history. Dominique rode several times both US coasts and many oblique highways between them. His dealership, that I have visited, is filled with Americana memorabilia that he didn’t find in his native country but that he personally selected in the US, first verifying authenticity, then importing them piece per piece to decorate all his workspace. Well, I suggest all Americans bikers visiting the famous Bordeaux vineyards to stop by his place if they would feel homesick… Continue reading ‘Tomahawk. A Very Sharp Custom Indian Scout.’

At a venue known for speed – Daytona International Speedway – Harley-Davidson took a moment to slow down and say “thank you,” inviting a group of military personnel and first responders to take an unforgettable ride around the “World Center of Racing” during the 75th Annual Daytona Bike Week. On Thursday March 10 in Daytona Beach, FL Karen Davidson, great-granddaughter of the company co-founder, riding a 2016 CVO Pro Street Breakout, led a group of military personnel and first responders on an honorary lap around the recently remodeled Speedway track.
Now through the end of 2016, all current and former U.S. military, and first responders, including law enforcement officers, firefighters and EMS professionals* are invited to learn to ride for free through Harley-Davidson’s Riding Academy program. More information is available at a Harley-Davidson dealer or going to American Heroes. If Riding Academy is not available in a particular area, qualified participants can still earn a Harley-Davidson Gift Card for the same amount of the enrollment fee for a qualified third-party motorcycle riding course.
On Tuesday March 8th at the Volusia County Race Track, the Team RSD racers battled handlebar-to-handlebar in pursuit of the checkered flag on their Custom RSD SuperHooligan Indian Scout Sixty bikes.
The ultra-aggressive elbow-to-elbow combat set on a short track offers spectators great entertainment and before and after each race a great example of bikers fun and camaraderie.
But what main modifications were made on these Indian Scouts racing in the RSD Super Hooligans? Below this feature is a short list.
Handlebars with no brake. 19” wheels. New tail section. Progressive shocks. RSD exhaust. Honey Comb rock protector. Mid control brackets. Shorty foot pegs. Flat track DT3 tires. Front and side number plates. Unbreakable lever. RSD risers and triple clamp. (All photography @ Horst Roesler, Manfred Graf and Regina Springer for Cyril Huze)
Last Saturday March 5th and after road testing in the morning the new Victory Octane (I will report soon), I went to the evening official launch party at the Main Street Station on Daytona Main Street. During the event featuring the lightest and most powerful and quickest motorcycle Victory has ever produced, the manufacturer announced, via the video below, a brand new motorcycle world record. On March 2nd, Victory Stunt Team rider Joe Dryden completed a 2.23-mile long burnout on the new Octane, a world record. The record-setting burnout was certified as an official Guinness World Record by a Guinness adjudicator. And having ridden the Octane, I must admit that this record fits very well with the new Victory Octane model American muscle personality. Watch…
From pioneers and innovators to customizers and dealers, the 2016 inductees into the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame represent every aspect of what makes motorcycling great. The Museum was chartered back in 2001 to recognize individuals or groups who have made a long term positive impact on the motorcycle community. Arguably the most diverse -and deserving – group ever inducted into the Hall of Fame, the Class of 2016 will be honored during the annual Rally on August 10, 2016.
“The Hall of Fame’s mission is to honor those who have made a positive and significant impact on the sport and lifestyle,” explains Tigra Tsujikawa, Marketing & Development Director for the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame. “It honors the men and women who have dedicated much of their lives to improving, promoting and advancing motorcycling.” While the Museum certainly pay tribute to the heritage of the Rally, the Hall of Fame transcends the Black Hills of South Dakota, she adds.
The Class Of 2016.
Bert Baker. V-Twin motorcycle drivetrain innovator, businessman and patriot, Bert Baker is committed to using materials, labor, creativity, know how and grit born of America.
Jerry Covington. Whether it is on TV or the cover of virtually every biker magazine in the world, it is hard to miss custom builder Jerry Covington. What does get overlooked is Covington’s behind the scenes commitment to the motorcycle community, his selfless donation of time and resources to those less fortunate through has various charity projects.
John Penton. One of the most influential figures in off-road motorcycling in the world, John Penton developed a legendary brand of motorcycles that bore his name (better known as KTM today). He also founded Hi-Point, an accessory and distribution company that had 50% of aftermarket sales in the U.S. and set the mold for modern distribution powerhouses like Parts Unlimited, Tucker Rocky and WPS. When it comes to design, nothing beats collaboration of creative types. So when Baggers Inc. wanted to produce their own line of billet products they went to Precision Billet. Together the two companies came up with this new Crusader floorboard already available for immediate delivery on the Precision Billet website.
This new floorboard was inspired by the shield in the Baggers Inc Logo, then enhanced with a see through pocket that translates motion in its flowing design. It features a hard wearing diamond cut base and is available in contrast cut and chrome. The contrast cut is unique in that the cut appears on the horizontal surface instead of the edges. The result makes a strong visual impact from the top view and gives the board a more multi-dimensional feel.
A complete line up of accessory parts is in the works with matching bag latches close to completion. Other parts planned include passenger boards, horn covers, grips, derby and points covers and air cleaner covers. Like all Precision Billet parts, these Crusader floorboards are 100% machined and assembled in Gilbert Arizona U.S.A. For more information call 480-813-1833 or visit Precision Billet
Why would you think about building a “kind-of-period-correct” World War II motorcycle from a Yamaha power plant? Only owner Edward Yuan can explain this to me and to you. In his words.
“The inspiration for this project came surprisingly from a Bloomingdales catalog with a vintage World War II motorcycle on the cover. Something about the look really appealed to me. After doing some research on the military motorcycles from that era, I decided I wanted a modern interpretation of a WWII military motorcycle with a more modern power plant and an updated braking system. The donor bike chosen was a 1980 Yamaha XS650, partially because it was economical and highly modifiable, but also because I liked the look of the engine. After a long search, I settled on the guys at Cycle Service Sales to build this project for me. Bill Giordano has a lot of experience with very old school motorcycles, and I really needed someone that was familiar with the motorcycles of that era to pull this project off. Since 2005, David has offered a special piece for Daytona Bike Week each year. Here are David Uhl’s 75th Anniversary Daytona Commemorative 2 new paintings. On top “Love Triangle”, bottom “75th and Main”. You can view the entire collection HERE.
Signed and numbered canvas prints are now available for purchase at special Rally pricing through the end of Daytona Bike Week (March 13th). David will also include shipping within the contiguous 48 United States for orders placed during the rally.
As always, edition numbers will be assigned as orders are taken and matching numbers are available for those who are adding to their Daytona Series.
* Image size appx 26.5″ x 20″, framed price $895. * Image size appx 40″ x 30″, framed price $2,250. As always, edition numbers will be assigned as orders are taken and matching numbers are available for those who are adding to their Daytona Series.
For new collectors, these Daytona acommemorative pieces are a great way to get into David’s work. The smaller pieces would normally be $1,250 PLUS shipping. And because of the immediate scarcity of these prints after the rally, they typically go up in value very quickly.
To reserve your Daytona piece this year, simply call Greg Rhodes at 303-913-4840 or stop by Uhl’s gallery just across the main entrance of Rossmeyer’s Harley-Davidson at Destination Daytona in Ormond Beach.

Since its spectacular introduction spinning on the “Wall Of Death” during the 2014 Sturgis rally, the new Indian Scout – now in 2 engine configurations – keeps being the talk of bikers here in the US and abroad. At time of launch, and whatever were the expectations of each of you, most agreed that the brand new Scout model could be the progeny of its Scout 101 forefather, a very important point for all those who gravitate to the Americana of a vintage cruiser. Journalists like me, and individuals who got right away a chance to demo-ride it, described the new Scout as probably the most sporty, responsive and predictable bike you can buy in the midsize category. A stylish and engineering feat that immediately created impatience among custom builders eager to show their skills on what can become the new modern Indian motorcycle icon.
Last year, the Indian factory designers and a few custom builders already released thematic (mainly race, hill climb and military) Scout interpretations. But 2016 is the year seeing a bevy of highly customized Scouts built by official Indian dealers (thanks to a competition among them) and by the best pro builders from the US, Europe & Asia. Among them, Bill Dodge from Blings Cycles who is currently showing his Rollfast Scout in Daytona, a superb example to where you can take a factory Scout when you want to make it a masterful rolling piece of art in all visible and hidden details. And of course one that you can ride very hard, Bill Dodge style, for those of you knowing what I mean… Roll fast was built for Jason Foster of Mission City, an Indian Motorcycle in Boerne, Texas.
When last January Bill Dodge introduced me to his Scout creation named Rollfast, and realizing at first glance the amount of work involved, I did’t ask him what he modified, but what he didn’t. His reply was the factory triangle design cast aluminum frame, the engine & tranny. On this project Bill’s job was not about challenging the technology of a reliable electronic fuel injection, of a reliable liquid cooling, of a model already well established as a confidence-inspiring ride for handling and performance. Maybe an unusual approach from a builder like Dodge whose philosophy and reputation has always been to challenge for the best most manufacturers’ work. But a huge compliment to the Indian’s engineers. So, all what you are looking at (except seat, tires and paint) is his own work, hand-formed, bended and machined in his Daytona shop, and amazingly performed in 6 weeks on a 14 h/day, 7-day week schedule… Continue reading ‘Rollfast Indian Scout By Bill Dodge’
The demand for quality suspension products is growing and aftermarket inverted front ends are now popular for Harleys. Builder Satya Kraus wants to lead the way with new kits offering improvements in performance function, safety, and aesthetics and easy to install on Harleys.
The Kraus Sport Performance bolt-on kit takes the guesswork out of inverted front suspension on Harley Davidson motorcycles. It’s engineered to keep traction to the ground, to stabilize the motorcycle in adverse road conditions, to limit brake dive, helping in maintaining control to give the rider piece of mind and comfort.
Kraus states that he has been designing, engineering and testing in real world, its inverted suspension and braking systems in very punishing conditions. It resulted in high quality complete Inverted Front End packages ready to bolt-on to all major Harley models, Dyna, FXR, Sportster and Softail models. More info at Kraus Motor Co. or call 707-595-0950
A farmer has 200 hens, but no rooster, and he wants chicks. So, he goes down the road to the next farmer and asks if he has a rooster which he would sell. The other farmer says, “Yeah, I’ve got this great rooster, named Randy. He’ll service every chicken you got, no problem.” Well, Randy the rooster costs a lot of money, but the farmer decides he’d be worth it. So, he buys Randy.
The farmer takes Randy home and sets him down in the barnyard first giving the rooster a pep talk, “Randy, I want you to pace yourself now. You’ve got a lot of chickens to service here, and you cost me a lot of money. Consequently, I’ll need you to do a good job. So, take your time and have some fun,” the farmer said, with a chuckle.
Randy seemed to understand, so the farmer points toward the hen house, and Randy took off like a shot. -WHAM!- Randy nails every hen in the hen house – three or four times, and the farmer is really shocked. After that the farmer hears a commotion in the duck pen, sure enough, Randy is in there. Later, the farmer sees Randy after a flock of geese, down by the lake. Once again – WHAM! He gets all the geese! By sunset he sees Randy out in the fields chasing quail and pheasants. Continue reading ‘Joke Of The Week’
In my 2016 custom motorcycle trend predictions published in January I was mentioning what I call “The Heritage Revival Movement” where new built custom motorcycles are modeled after the bikes that filled our grandparents “good old days” or drawing inspiration from the bikes legends rode to victory in major races. New motorcycles using at least one major antique original part (engine is best choice) that tell a nostalgic story in reaction to the fast pace of our times.
Illustrating this trend, last weekend Dutch custom bike builder Piet Smits won Best Of Show with this boardtracker and impressed the 100,000 visitors who visited during 4 days the MOTORbeurs Utrecht in The Netherlands. It’s a stunning bike iwith a 1930 J.A.P. 500cc engine cradled in a self made stainless steel frame, front forks and exhaust system. What should be the gas tank (actually the fuel s hidden in the top frame tube) is hand blown glass. “Breakable” rolls on a pair of 26” wheels made of Perspex (plastic glass). Same treatment for the oil tank attached to the frame post. Continue reading ‘Breakable Boardtracker By Dutch Custom Builder Piet Smits’
